Restrictor Plates at Charlotte?

Consider the Source

Without the need of hardly lifting out of the gas on a new set of tires I'd bet you could haul around there for a few laps damn near wide open. I have no clue what kind of race that would bring.

Couldn't they just use a different tire compound?

if they use restrictor plates.... I predict one boring race.

Atlanta is faster than Daytona. They run almost flat out on new tires. The racing is great there.

The sky isn't falling yet, but if they put restrictor plates on.......... duck!

I'd tell Humpy, You screwed it up, either fix it or move the date to Sonoma (another SMI track) Would be great to have a road course in the chase.

I went to Lowe's Motor Speedway last October, and I'll tell you this. It was the best damn race I've ever been to. If they decide to make this a restrictor plate race, then I'd rather not even watch it. I hate all restrictor plate races. Ha...they are the only tracks that DEI even has a chance on. Jimmie owns Lowe's Motor Speedway. Making it a restrictor plate race wouldn't affect him at all.

I forget who (a driver) said it, but it was suggested that engine size be scaled down for ALL races. IMO, restrictor plates are not good for racing's image and I'd much rather see another road race.

They are working on a new displacement engine for the future, I think 07 is the target date if i remember correctly. Restrictor plates at Charlotte would be a joke, they are a joke on Daytona and Dega. I say re-pave Charlotte.... come on the dude has the money just fix it right!

Less cubic inch would also be a joke. They're already limited to 358". What's next 6 cylinders??

done been there, and they was faster then the v8's. They put the v6s in the bush cars and maybe the trucks about 10 years ago.

I have got a 355 and a 383 and have a ton of horse power comming out of them. if not uncommon to see a "Stock" 350 block with 600 or more h/p. (i use stock, because the block came from the factory and was used in street cars)

Yep Lappy, the Busch cars used to run the 6 cylinders, but not the trucks. Those sixers were loud, and with a whine that was so much higher than the throaty V8's.

As to the restrictor plates, all I can say is that so many people say that they hate this type of racing, but these races, Dega and Tona, produce some of the closest racing they've ever had and if anyone can sit tight while these races are ongoing, they don't have any sense of danger, thrill or whatever. Yep, I've heard many more people tell me they hate this type of racing, but there are plenty of people who love it and will fill the stands more and more. The ones who hate it the most are the drivers and who could blame them? Fortythree cars all in a pack is certainly exciting to watch, but hell to be in going close to 200 mph. For any of you who don't like those races, I'd suggest you forego them for any local racing and just read about it in the papers. The local racing will easily be more exciting anyway, even for those of us who like the closeness of plate racing.

Yet again another example of Nascar only out for the ratings and $$, without restrictor plates there would still be some awesome racing. I'm not advocating going 230mph around Dega and Daytona, just let these guys really race on these big tracks. We don't have them at Mich., Texas, Pocono, Atlanta, and Calif., where speeds exceed 200mph entering the corners. Seems to work ok on these tracks without the plates, why can't the powers that be figure out a better solution for Dega and Daytona???

We are talking about Charlotte and not Daytona and Talladega.

no plates! but if they put them on i will still watch on sunday and still enjoy myself, i may not love plate racing but its still racing, and since there are no local tracks around me i must stick with my nextel cup..

Well, we have a lot of local tracks around here, but I still won't stop watching because of something like that.

Get rid of the plates....still can be done, it is all politics and $$$ Nascar won't do it because they are afraid to lose any cash. The drivers hate it and the pure fan hates it, the wanna be newbie fans love it because they don't understand racing. Get rid of the plates period, don't need them, don't want them, and in the long run the racing will be safer and better.
