Richmond not selling out...

... Apparently NASCAR's not happy that RIR hasn't sold out. Watch, later this year, NASCAR swaps Richmond @ California Spring races.

IDK how it'll work, but I can promise you there's NO WAY I go to a Sprint Cup race in February and freeze my azz off in the bleachers.

The one thing, barelypure, I think we forgot to factor in: Rockingham.

I think, all things considered, I'm skipping the Spring race next year and going to Rockingham. I SHOULD'VE done that this year, but I didn't think I'd be able to afford it. Turns out, I can.

Richmond used to be the second race until NASCAR got smart and moved it.

Talladega had a number of empty seats. I think it's an indication of the economy.

MRM, I'm with you. People are having to take so-called "disposable" income and using it to keep a roof over their head and gas in the tank.

While that isn't so much the reason we aren't going to Lowes this year, man are they wearing out my phone and mailbox wondering where I'm at.
From their efforts the Coke 600 will have seats available as well.

I'm not going to either Charlotte race this year.

Combined with saving almost every single dime for my wedding in June and gas prices increasing, i have no disposal income at all.

It's on a horrible weekend now. Everybody knows to expect rain that weekend. It always rains on the first weekend of May. Happens every year, like clockwork.

BTW ... looks like we're going to have another washout.

It was horrible last year. Cold, windy, rainy, sucky. You can't have much worse weather.

I'd like to see an afternoon race at Richmond back on the schedule. :idunno:

As bad as the COT has been on the 1.5-mile tracks so far, I suspect the Coke 600 will be a big surprise as to the number of empty seats. I've been getting constant emails on different ticket packages and pricing, and they keep going down on the price.

I blame the economy- I was working yesterday, and a lady came in saying you can't get food and gas at the same pay period- it just isn't feasable. And i'd say it's getting that way. I just got a 50 cent raise....and that's alot even with how little I work. With college looming, hughesnet wanting 60 bucks a month for (not-even-close-to) High speed internet, my dad not getting paid the full fuel cover by his company, high food prices, and high fuel prices, we're pretty much in a bind.

TRL, you picked a good year to sell off them season tickets!

:bsflag:

Our economy's in the best shape it's ever been right now. It's true. Mudslinger told me so.

:)

I've made up my mind...

This is the last year I go to Richmond for both races.

I'm getting a little tired of the race getting rained out every year.

Next year, I go to Rockingham. :D

Lowe's Motor Speedway officials announced that Sprint Cup Series drivers will compete for a record $6.6 million purse in the May 25 Coca-Cola 600.

The $6,648,557 in total awards for the event is $78,929 more than last year.

"Things have changed so drastically that it's hard to compare prize money from the early years of the sport to today, but here's a fact that caught my eye," said H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler, president and general manager of Lowe's Motor Speedway. "Two-time NASCAR champion Ned Jarrett ran 352 races between 1953 and 1966, winning 50 times, and his total career winnings were $289,146. That's $59,429 less than the total posted awards for the winner of this year's Coca-Cola 600."

NASCAR Sprint All-Star race and Sprint Showdown competitors will also compete for a record purse of $4.3 million, with the all-star race winner guaranteed a minimum $1 million.

Also, Nationwide Series drivers will compete for a record $1.2 million in the May 24 Carquest Auto Parts 300.
