There's a deal called the "Good News Garage" in vermont started by a guy name Hal Colston. He takes cars that people in his area have donated to him, refurbishes them, & sells them to needy families mostly single Moms. To date he's done about 3,500 cars. They usually give the cars to the families for the cost of fixing them or half the blue book value. Well when Rick Hendrick found this out, he donated I think it was 8 2008 Chevy Monte Carlo's to this guys garage as well as paid for the gas for a year. They were on the Oprah Winfrey show. I thought it was pretty awesome & i'm gonna donate $200 to the cause. If you guys wanna donate you need to Oprahs website to check it out...

That seems like a pretty good PR move on Hendrick's part. It also seems like a very nice thing to do. Hendrick gets a pretty bad rap, some of it is deserved of course. None of us is perfect. But he does seem like a pretty decent guy.

You read a story like this and then you think of all the "clunkers" the government is crushing that could be donated to needy families who don't have the means to purchase a vehicle.

Yeh that is what i thought when the program first started. Seems like a waste if the car can be fixed at a cheap cost then donated to some one who can really use it.

Most of them don't have to be fixed. They are just being traded in for a higher MPG car.

My Mom just bought a new car and her car didn't qualify for Cash For Clunkers. They said it got 20 mpg and it has to be 18mpg or less.

Thanks to "CASH FOR CLUNKERS FROM GOV'T JOKERS", there will be fewer rides for that nice Gentleman to fix up for needy folk.

Not to take anything away from what Rick Hendrick has done here, but the man owns probrably close to 80 dealerships, you would think he could send this kind hearted American a dozen or more fixerups to help out. Atleast I would if I could.
