There is a story being whispered about that Ricky Hendrick has opted to quit racing. Effective immediately.

Speculation on the reasons runs rampant. I have no clue to the reliability of the rumor or the reasons, if true.

I've gotten to meet Ricky a few times, and he's a really good guy. I hope this isn't true.

jayski's busch site says he did step aside effective immediately..said the effects of his shoulder injury is why...

Didn't his Dad try and get him out of the car after he injured his shoulder? Do you think yesterday's tragedy was the capper?

do you really blame him? racing was just going to be something to pass the time for him.

CONCORD, N.C. -- Ricky Hendrick, son of championship car owner Rick Hendrick, has decided to end his driving career, effective immediately.

Former Busch Series champion David Green will replace him for the remainder of the season, starting this weekend at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

"This was an incredibly hard decision to make," said Hendrick, who underwent extensive shoulder surgery following a severe crash at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

"I have an obligation to give my sponsors and my team the best possible chance at success on the race track and I've come to the conclusion that I'm not able to deliver that."

Hendrick, driver of the No. 5 GMAC Chevrolet in the NASCAR Busch Series, was a budding star. He had two top-10s, and missed six races due to the aforementioned injury. He will continue to work with team GMAC and Green.

"After a lot of soul searching, I've decided to step away from the driver's seat to pursue other opportunities within Hendrick Motorsports," Ricky Hendrick said. "I love this team and I love this sport, but I'm not able to perform at a level that I'm comfortable with."

"I can't tell you how proud I am of Ricky," said Rick Hendrick, Ricky's father and owner of Hendrick Motorsports. "He wants to give his team and his sponsors the tools to be successful, and when he realized that he wasn't physically able to do that, he showed a lot of character by making a tough choice.

"With his experience in so many areas of Hendrick Motorsports, from race cars to sponsorship, Ricky will be a valuable contributor to the future growth and success of our company."

Green, 44, will replace Hendrick in the No. 5 Chevrolet effective immediately. The Owensboro, Ky., native was runner-up to Jeff Gordon in the 1991 Busch Series Rookie of the Year competition, winning the series championship in 1994 and the Most Popular Driver award in 1996.

he was suppose to be on RPM last night but did not show? I wounder if that is why.

From what I have read his dad has always wanted him to get out of race cars. I feel like what happened yesterday had alot to do with it even though they say not.
