Ricky Rudd on NBCSN

plenty of drivers are as tough as ricky. some even won championships.

Oh, yeah. Wanted the water hose to put down his back to cool him off. Problem -- said water hose had been laying in sun --- how about scalding water down your back.

Imagine if that happened to Kyle Busch. LMAO radio chatter for the ages.

Ricky Rudd is a hell of a guy. I had the chance to work for him for about year or so about about 15 years ago. Just a down right great guy.

Name some

Probably depends on the definition of "tough." If we're going "racing with injuries," then certainly Earnhardt and Terry Labonte (who finished his 1996 championship run with a broken wrist) come to mind from the recent past. And of course, Red Byron was a WW2 fighter pilot, so no one's questioning his toughness.

Once you get past that championship crust, or go far enough back in history to be able to say ALL the drivers were tougher because they were driving without power steering, A/C systems, etc. ... no, there aren't PLENTY of drivers tougher than Ricky. That's why he has the Ironman streak and they don't.

I was a fan of Rudd until he spun Davey Allison out on a road course for a win (NASCAR took the win away from him - the only time I've seen that done).

I believe I read somewhere that race plus Regan Smith's pass below the yellow line at Talladega to beat Tony Stewart are the only two times that NASCAR has credited somebody other than the guy who crossed the finish line first with the win.

nascar really didn't take away the win, when he came to take the checkered flag he was given black flag instead, which means lap won't count. the black flag has been given many races and still is, just was the only time given coming to the checkered flag. Rudd should have been counted as 1st car one lap down, but he was given credit for 2nd place. also Rudd would have won bonus money for the pole sitter winning the race. funny thing Rudd took his car to victory lane anyway. the track went by Sears Point Raceway back then.

I was a big fan of the 28 car but I disagree, they did take the win away from Rudd. He got screwed.

i also think Rudd should have been given the win, i was just stating that he was never awarded the win and then nascar took it away.

Something about road courses creates drama that don't happen on ovals. That Rudd/Allison thing is right up there with the Robby Gordon thing at Montreal and the Sorenson/Fellows thing at Road America a few years back.

Name some
Richard Petty drove with a broke neck, Neil Bonnett broke arm, and if you consider not knowing anything about concussions back then. but Ricky Rudd was also a tough SOB.

I'm going to start talking like Leigh Diffey. Sonomer. Californer. Austier. Road Americer. Alabamer. Daytoner. Danicer. :p

Did Kyle Petty have a flat towards the end of that, or I wonder if somebody spun him out? I bet if Mark could have caught back up to him we'd see a not so nice Mr Martin lol.

Actually, it wasn't Kyle Petty. Petty had broken his leg at Talladega in a crash that started when he, Ernie Irvan (naturally, because Swervin' Irvan), and Mark Martin (naturally, because it's not a Talladega race until he gets wrecked) got together on the backstretch.

Tommy Kendall, a road course ace, was driving the #42 that weekend. And yes, he had a flat tire, which opened the door for the Allison-Rudd duel. Martin finished 9th, Kendall 18th. In an unfortunate and ironic (or coincidental? I always get those two mixed up) twist, Kendall would have also driven the #42 at Watkins Glen if he hadn't broken his own leg driving an IMSA car at the same course in June.

While I'm throwing out video links like a maniac, here's one actually semi-relevant to Ricky Rudd's status as a B.A.

The way I remember it was that Rudd conveniently given a five second penalty on the final scoring timing, which made him P2.
It sounded so F1ish to me and bizzare. I dont like spinning a guy out for the win, but Nascar made an exceptional ruling or call against Rudd.

It was BS imo.

Kind of like NASCAR adding a 13th driver to the Chase and taking points away from a driver who wasn't points eligible.

The thing about it was Dale did crap like that all the time and NASCAR was fine with it

I didn't see a 5 second penalty given to Kyle Bush for dumping Kesloski, but that kinda shows Nascars inconsistency. That was almost identical to the Rudd- Allison deal.

I don't think you have to worry about Kyle winning a race any time soon.
