Sterling Marlin will replace Scott Riggs in the MB2 Motorsports #10 in '06.
Glad to hear Marlin will be around for awhile longer....maybe just maybe he will contend for the championship one more time.

Here are some details.

Marlin Signs With MB2 For Two Years
Some of the qualities that threatened to nudge veteran driver Sterling Marlin out of racing — advancing age and a country-boy demeanor — are the same ones that helped him land a new ride. Marlin confirmed yesterday that he will race the next two seasons for MB2 Motorsports as a teammate of Joe Nemechek. "I've got a deal," Marlin said, "and it's a good one." The 48-year-old racer from Columbia will replace Scott Riggs, who is jumping to Evernham Motorsports next year. MB2, based in Concord, N.C., could have followed the recent trend in NASCAR and picked one of a dozen young drivers with a more polished image than Marlin, a self-described "country boy." But team official Jay Frye said "age equates to experience," and that Marlin's lack of pretension is appealing. "Sterling has no baggage," Frye said. "Everybody likes him." Marlin, who has 10 Nextel Cup wins dating back to his Daytona 500 triumphs in 1994-95, will finish the season with Chip Ganassi Racing, his team since 1998. Ganassi announced earlier that it was releasing Marlin at the end of the season. Marlin said he is relieved to get his new deal finalized because it's the last one he will have to negotiate. "Two more years is all I want," he said. "After that I'm done."(Tennessean)

I like the country boy demeanor, although I will admit sometimes it's hard to understand his English. This is a no frills man who still has a lot left to contribute....to Sterling and two more years :beerbang: :beerbang:

Great news for Sterling! But he won't be driving the #10 car. That number along with Valvoline and Scott Riggs will all be moving to Evernham.

You're right...I just assumed everyone knew the sponsor and number usually follow the driver.

I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but it very UNUSUAL for a number to follow a driver. A sponsor is more likely to follow with the driver, but that too seldom happens. In the case of Riggs and the #10, Valvoline was the sponsor but was also co-owner of the car. Hence the MBV. The car OWNER's own the car numbers, the drivers do not unless they are driver/owner. Case in point, Texaco/Havoline and the #42 won't be going with Jamie McMurray and the #97 and it's plethor of sponsors won't be going with Kurt Busch.

So will Coors be going with Marlin?
Doesn't appear to be the case this time. David Stremme will be in the 40..Coors will be primary sponsor for 17 races, associate sponsorship for 19.....
