My drinking buddy for one evening during his early years. I consider George the best of all time.

You just don't have that many "old country" fans on here. You have a fair amount of "new country" fans, but most of them just don't like the traditional stuff. I grew up listening to the older stuff along with many other types of music. When my parents got ahold of the radio it was a lot of Conway Twitty, George Jones, Buck Owens, Marle Haggard and even old Hank Williams, Sr. I wasn't crazy over most of it at the time, although I always did like Conway Twitty for some reason (Lay You Down was a personal favorite). I didn't really start listening to country by choice until the mid 80's. Some of those guys were still in the rotation, or were called in as requests from the listeners. But, it was mostly Alabama, George Strait, Keith Whitley and the like by then. I listened to an awful lot of Merle Haggard to Dwight Yoakam at the time. I still listen to a lot of that stuff, but I am kind of weird in that regard.Just started back reading this forum and first thing I saw was one post about George Jones.......You are right, he was one of the best Classic Country singers of all time. I will miss him for a long time. I grew up listening to his songs. I have played 99% of his songs at one time or another. Me being a Pedal Steel Player and a George Fan I would have hoped to see at least 100 posts about him..........RIP GJ
