Robbie Loomis, who has spent the last six years spearheading the on-track program for team owner Richard Petty, is no longer with Richard Petty Motorsports, a team spokesman confirmed Sunday.

Loomis most recently held the position of Chief Operating Officer for the organization. He has not been replaced, and Sammy Johns, director of team operations, has assumed some of Loomis’ duties.

Winner of the 2001 Sprint Cup championship as a crew chief with driver Jeff Gordon at Hendrick Motorsports, Loomis won 23 races in five years with Gordon.

Before joining Hendrick Motorsports, Loomis worked at Petty Enterprises from 1988-1999, which included two years as crew chief for Richard Petty and seven more on top of the pit box for other drivers.

He returned to Petty Enterprises following the 2005 season.

So why did this happen folks?

A. Loomis got tired of the gig and gave it up for good

B. Richard caught him smoking meth with Mayfield out back in the tire shed and fired his ass

C. Loomis got a better job elsewhere

He's been around for a long time. Maybe he retired.

Of course you both have to pick the one I didn't put up there. So much for rumors.

Loomis looks too sleepy to be a crackhead, but I think A is most likely. Does RPM even have a second sponsor lined up yet?

More likely ,he WAS retired .He joins a growing list of old school crew chiefs who bit the dust this year.Put out to pasture , so to speak.

Hey getting put out to pasture aint all bad......ever heard of Stud Service!

Well IMO the man had a decent career if he has indeed called it. Go ahead and head out to the lake Rob, take care...

could have retired, more likely was retired. robby's been at rpm through many bad years. emphasis bad years. i'm surprised he lasted as long as he did. isn't he related to the petty's? cousin i believe.

So that's Steve Hmiel , Tony Glover , and Robbie Loomis in the last two months? All three are Hall of Fame candidates in my mind .Is there more to come? A changing of the guard ? Experience not valuble any more ?
