Hey everybody, the first practice speeds came in, Robby is third fastest behind Boris in 2nd and Jeff Gordon in 1st. Robby qualifies early though, so look for mid pack qualifying Said and final qualifier Jeff Gordon to take the top two spots. Robby may have a good run, but with a bunch of good drivers qualifying late, he will be relegated to a mere top ten at best. Although, a fan can hope, can't he?

well, LePage didn't hvae a very good practice...if he fails to make the race, and robby has a good race, he'd move up one spot in the standings. If only he could get past the juggernauts of Leffler and Hamilton, Jr., he could make it into the top 35, LePage is the first hurdle.

This is the one track when practice speeds are pretty close to the final results. If Robby's running that well, he should do fine in qualifying and the race as well.

I'm pulling for him, I like him, he's talented, he's just never received the backing some other drivers have.

...like 15 min to qualifying, right?

I love road course races. Most NASCAR fans don't, I'm gathering. Two of my die-hard NASCAR buddies are actually missing the race on purpose. They made plans with their wives especially for this weekend because they hate road courses.

I like 'em. I think we get to see who the real drivers are.

^ not almost, he's only 12 in points he can made the chase in one race as he is in 12th right now

No offence to robby gordons team, but if he finishes close to where he qualifies then this just proves even more rc tracks are more about driver talent then equipment.

I totally agree. If you look at the top-ten qualifiers, those are probably the top 8 drivers in NASCAR right now. (toss out Said, and Pruett) Even then, there's an arguement to made for Said because of his background, he may be able to relay to his team better on a road course; meaning they're able to get a better car under him. That aside, there's no doubt we're looking at the most talented drivers in NASCAR in that top-ten. I mean, even Junior didn't invest his time in Corvette racing in the off-season strictly because it was fun. He did to become a better driver, and it's paid off these last two seasons for him. And he's got the scars to prove it. :) (cue rimshot)

I couldn't resist.

Anyway, Gordon, Johnson, Junior, R. Gordon, Tony Stewart, Kurt Busch, all participate in some form of road course/ Grand Prix racing in the off-season and it is because they become better drivers overall for it.

None taken man, in fact, I wish all tracks were more about driver talent than equipment. It might make plate racing more interesting.
