Hey everybody, I just wanted to note that I was reading over at www.robbygordon.com and he mentioned that they will be unveiling their new paint scheme and sponsor on Friday at California. Any ideas on who it will be?

The way I understood his sponsor deals, it was going to be Jim Beam and Fruit of the Loom splitting the season. Your guess is as good as mine.

Fruit of the Loom was announced as 9 races.
Jim Beam was announced a "designated number of races."
Harah's is also aboard as a sponsor.

I can't find it now, but I recall Robby saying that there would be more sponsorship announcements.

there are supposed to be 4 primaries for 9 races apiece. Jim Beam, FOTL, are the only two announced so far. Harrah's is on board as an associate and menard builds his engines, so I'd guess robby throws that one on there for a discount, but menard is already sponsoring his son and also DEI...so, I don't know. I guess that's why he qualled with a DEI engine though. I am thinking red bull and maybe harrah's, but I don't know.

ya i can see it now a big pair of briefs on the back on his car with a protective cup,lol with the statement saying dont bump me :beerbang:

Jesus guys I thought that was funny! What are you the thought police! Talk about negative comments.
Betsy

Yeah, I love negative comments to. Too many folks on here believe that everybody has to bend over and pucker up or they just don't belong. That, my friend, is just not the real world. Not everyone is going to like who you like. Not everyone is going to say what you think they should say. Sometimes dropping something funny into a conversation is the best thing to do. It breaks the monotony. The saddest thing I've seen on here was the 4 million threads on "What we like about....". How about "What we don't like about....". That would get more responses than those sad sack threads. That would stir more talk amongst the members here. The fact that people look for things to get their feelings hurt is the most asinine and childish thing I've seen.

Sorry for the rant...

The saddest thing I've seen on here is... nevermind.

Pay no mind, TonyB. Not everyone likes to think of GOOD things to say about people, they just want to be negative! :( And, then again, some people don't know how to say good things. Although I may not have posted in very many of those threads, I did enjoy reading them.

Las Vegas, NV., February 25, 2005 – NASCAR owner/driver Robby Gordon will hit the track this year sporting a lucky No. 7 and a casino logo on his car.

Harrah’s Operating Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Harrah’s Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE: HET), announced today that it has reached agreement in principle to sponsor Robby Gordon Motorsports throughout the 2005 NASCAR Nextel Cup season. Subject to a definitive agreement, the arrangement calls for Harrah’s to be the primary sponsor for 14 Cup races and an associate sponsor for 13 races.

The sponsorship includes a multi-faceted marking program and exposes several Harrah’s-owned brands to the more than 75 million NASCAR fans in the United States. In addition to the Harrah’s logo, Gordon’s car hood will feature the World Series of Poker logo for select races.

Harrah’s primary sponsorship begins with the February 27th Nextel Cup race at California Speedway and will include several races held at tracks in proximity to Harrah’s casinos across the country, including Las Vegas Motor Speedway (Harrah’s Las Vegas and the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino), Atlanta Motor Speedway (Harrah’s Cherokee Casino), Phoenix International Raceway (Harrah’s Phoenix Ak-Chin Casino), Dover International Speedway (Harrah’s Atlantic City and Showboat Atlantic City) and Kansas Speedway (Harrah’s North Kansas City).

Components of the Harrah’s sponsorship include at-track customer promotions, VIP entertainment and pre-race pit tours, Fan Fest event at casinos, personal appearances and Harrah’s-branded Robby Gordon Motorsports merchandise.

Gordon made personal appearances and hosted Fan Fest events for Harrah’s last year. He also helped raise awareness for Harrah’s participation in the Meals on Wheels Association of America “March For Meals” campaign.

“Robby Gordon is a winner and has been a great ambassador for Harrah’s,” said Gary Loveman, Harrah’s chairman, president and chief executive officer. “We’re thrilled to take our relationship to a new level and back Robby during this historic season as he becomes the only team owner and driver racing in the NASCAR Nextel Cup.”

Gordon’s past NASCAR highlights include victories at the Emerson Radio 250 Busch race in 2004 and three Cup victories in 2003 at Daytona International Speedway

(Gatorade 125), Watkins Glen International Raceway and Infineon Raceway. In 2003, he became third driver in history to lead laps in both the Indianapolis 500 and the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

“I can’t remember a time when I’ve been so excited to go racing,” said Gordon. “I’m grateful to Harrah’s for helping to make this season a reality. Serving as an owner and driver in the Cup series is dream, and I’m determined to bring the Harrah’s name to Victory Lane.”

Gordon has driven virtually every type of racing vehicle on four wheels. He was discovered in the deserts of Baja, Mexico by Ford Racing executives at a time when he was running off five consecutive series championships (1986-1990). Ford later introduced the teenager to Jack Roush and the IMSA GTO series (four consecutive class wins in the famed Rolex 24 at Daytona), and he would eventually drive for a series of legendary owners in Indy cars, NASCAR, off-road trucks and sports cars.

In 2005, Gordon continued to build on his relationship as a driver with unlimited boundaries by becoming the first American in the history of the Dakar Rally (a 16-day, 5,700-mile race from Barcelona, Spain to Dakar, Senegal) to win a daily stage. Gordon completed his inaugural Dakar Rally with two stage victories and an overall 12th place finish in a field of more than 460 cars, bikes and trucks.

So Harrah's for 14 races.
Fruit of the Loom for 9 races.
Jim Beam for 10 races.
The other 3? Menards? Red Bull?

Where did you get Jim Beam for 10? I haven't seen a number speficied for the Jim Beam deal. The unofficial announcement specifically said "undetermined number."

My bad... that was just something I read off of the Nascar board.

I had always heard Jim Beam for 9, but considering he missed out on the Daytona 500, i'd say he owes them another race? I don't know where I heard it though TonyB, so I'd guess that they might be covering those other 3 or 4 races. Is Robby planning on running the Coca Cola 600 this year though?

It certainly sounds like RObby is planning to run the 600 and NOT the Indy 500. He was quoted as saying he thought it was stupid to move the 500 to an hour later because it would stop the NASCAR guys from trying the 500.

You can bet for certain that the #7 will be entered at Charlotte. Under the new qualifying rules, there is an extreme penalty for a car not attempting the race.

Penalty for not racing? What is it?

The new rules that locks the top 35 into the field requires that the team have attempted to qualify for all the races. If a team doesn't show upe ven one week, they won't be able to lock themselves into the field no matter their performance.

This is coming into plaay a good deal in the Busch Series. In the Busch Series it's the top 30 that are locked in. But of the 2004 top 30 only 26 attempted to qaulify for every races, so only the top 26 are locked in these first 5 races.

Nascar wasnt fast enough to get all of the cars through inspection. So only about 36 of the 48 drivers entered were able to practice in the first session. Crapcar at its best.

No worries though, Robby was 20th in Happy Hour practice, ahead of all the RCR drivers might I add. :D

NASCAR wasn't fast enough???
Ahhh Hmmm, cars were failing inspection and having to go back and rework them and didn't get done in time. A few cars failed inspection more than once. It will be interesting to see the fines next week.
Kevin Lepages primary car was so screwed up he had to pull out his back up that wasn't even ready to be a back up, it had no setup under it. Remember though, Kevin only has 6 crewman besides himself and his wife totaling 8 in all.
You can't blame NASCAR when the teams themselves cause the problems. It was my understanding talking with people while watching some of the inspections that ALL teams went through inspection BEFORE first practice, but several failed and did not get the work done in time to go back through inspection and get out in 1st practice.

Nope. He never failed inspection. Nascar was just too slow in inspecting cars so some cars were never able to get on the track.

Why in the world would you want to atart a tread where the soul purpose of that tread is to start a war and cause hard feelings. Don't make since to me.

so.....does that mean Robby failed inspection?

Robby didn't practice? I could have sworn I saw that ugly car on the track. And let me tell you, Robby fan or not that is the Fugliest car I ever saw!!

well, he didn't have practice speeds for the first practice session...and yes, even fuglier than larry foyt's harrah's ride
however, the purple and yellow would be okay with some green, make it kind of mardi gras colors

Ax, that yellow is a lemony/ limy floresent color. It sure looks a lot different than the pictures when you're at the track. Hell, I'm a RG fan no matter what the color of his car, but honestly that car is "F ugly"!! LOL
