NASCAR announced Wednesday that Robby Gordon has been fined and issued two point-standing penalties, for rule infractions during this past Sunday’s NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series event at Atlanta. Gordon, the driver and owner of the #7 Chevy, has been fined $15,000; he also has been penalized with the loss of 50 driver championship points and 50 car owner championship points. Gordon also has been placed on probation by NASCAR until Dec. 31. Gordon violated Sections 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock car racing) and 12-4-N (intentionally causing a caution condition during the race) – of the NASCAR Rule Book. In addition, Gordon’s crew chief Greg Erwin has been fined $10,000 due to violations of Sections 12-A and 12-4-N – and 9-4-A (crew chief assumes responsibility for the actions of his/her driver, car owner and team members). Erwin also has been placed on probation until Dec. 31.(NASCAR PR)(11-1-2006)

Hmm...Kinda like Jr in 2004 at Bristol. Spun out on purpose.

i though nascar let this one go? guess they were taking some heat by the media and the such.

but it was obviously the right call though.

olny way to prove it was to look in Robbys car and see if any padden was missing, and if so was the zippy ties still in the floor board? He does seem like he is full of crap in the interview, but it is hard to tell if it came from his car.

ESPN said that NASCAR could'nt find nothing wrong with robby's car

I like Robby but I've lost a lot of respect for him. Especially with the BS job he tried to feed everyone after the race.

They also should have fine him for being a damn liar on national T.V.

lol.gif
I usually always enjoy your posts, I USUALLY find them intelligent but if you're trying to tell me NO ONE in NASCAR has lied to the Media ever, much less probably atleast a dozen times this past weekend alone you are far more nieve than I figured.

I guess Roger Penski looking straight into the camara's saying there's no way they would switch from Ford to Dodge, OR.............
How many times has Rusty looked at the camara a swore he didn't know something, from Penske switching to Dodge to who Roger was talking to replace him( to find out he'd been talking to Kurt for months) To many many other things.
Everyweek people are asked questions we find out later they flat assed lied about.
Is there a special qualification that some lies are ok but others deserve severe punishment? Someone from NASCAR looks into the camara weekly and lie through their ass, but that appears to be acceptable to you.

I thought this thread was about Robby. If you want me to comment about the other liars, start a new thread. :D

Liar? Maybe he will seek a job in politics. I can see it now:
"I did not have relations with that roll bar padding. We are just friends who help each other out in a pinch. Besides, it sticks to my lips when we kiss".
or
"This is America. We should be able to express our feelings through actions such as throwing padding, or helmets. My fore fathers fought for that priveledge. Wait....I didn't have four fathers."

I can hear Robby's appeal now.

"Well Mr. Chairman, it is not like everyone else has not done it at some time and they did not get fined!!"

The biggest lie of all was 1999 at Bristol
"I just meant to rattle his cage, I didn't mean to take him out" Ya right. LOL

Nah, Pocono 2000.

Jerry Punch: "Dale, what was that gesture you gave Jeremy Mayfield out the window?"

Dale Sr: "Jerry, I was just tellin' him he was number 1"

:D :D :D :D :D I thought that was just the funniest. Dale's had several of those moments.

We impeached a President over lying about , um how do I be politically correct on this one, sexual relations and yet we allow another President to lie his way into a deadly and deliberate war. There's always been a double-standard in not just NASCAR but everything. That's what this country was founded upon.

I don't need to look in anyone's car. I have two eyes which work well and wacthed the replay. I know what happened.

UPDATE: Gordon Plans to Appeal Penalty

He's upset that the penalty was too severe. Wah!
Tell him to go talk to Jeff Burton.

Robby Gordon Motorpsorts released a statement Wednesday night that did not address whether Gordon was innocent but indicated it would appeal the penalty. "We strongly believe the penalty imposed on the team, crew chief and driver, Robby Gordon, are excessive and fall well outside of any reasonable precedence set by NASCAR in dealing with many similar incidents in the past," Gordon's team said in a statement. "We do intend to appeal the severity of this penalty."(SceneDaily.com)(11-2

Gordon is not the first driver to penalized for causing a caution this season, though he is the first to receive a monetary and points fine after a race this season.

At New Hampshire, Aaron Fike was penalized for intentionally causing a caution when his glove appeared on the track, an infraction he claimed was accidental, stating that the glove fell off when he had his hand out the window trying to get air into his car. A glove mysteriously appeared on the track during the race at California Speedway earlier this season, but NASCAR never determined its owner.

At the Texas Busch Series race in April, Reed Sorenson was sent to the end of the longest line - a loss of five positions - after NASCAR officials saw video evidence of a piece of roll-bar padding come out the driver's side window, which was followed by Sorenson's team requesting a caution for debris. He was not penalized further.

When Dale Earnhardt Jr. was ruled to have spun intentionally to cause a caution period in the Nextel Cup race at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2004, he received a 25-point driver penalty and $10,000 fine and his Dale Earnhardt Inc. team also received a 25-point penalty in the owner standings.

TRL- fond memories of that? LOL

Maybe Robby will throw something out this week and y'all won't have to see him again this year. He has been such a non-factor except for the road courses. He is a rounder Kenny Wallace without the sense of humor...

I just want NASCAR to be consistent with their calls. Someone should tell them there's technology available to eliminate many of these judgement calls which encourage drivers/crew chiefs to push the limit.

I dont understand if you want a harsher or lesser penalty

I think the penalty is to harsh.

"As is the case after any race, we looked at a number of cars, including Robby Gordon's. And although we didn't find anything suspicious with the car at the time, we are continuing to review and discuss this situation," NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp said.

"We are gathering all the information we can and we'll make a determination based upon what conclusions we're able to draw from that."

After the race, a NASCAR spokesman said a taped replay of the incident was "inconclusive."
