Robby Gordon rumored to third Gibbs car

Personally Id love the idea as a Robby Gordon fan. Seeing Tony Stewart and Robby Gordon paired up as teammates would be very interesting, and Ive been reading around that Tony has been pushing for Robby as a teammate. As far as I see it, Robby has the talent, but at RCR the cars are the problem. I believe a Gibbs car which is 3rd in pecking order is better than a RCR car which is 2nd in pecking order.

i agree with you, it seems like the RCR cars are dominate at times very few and far between...of course, third in pecking order is still pretty bad regardless of where you go, but I wonder if Gibbs would beef up the cash for the car out of a will to get it done quicker. I'm excited about anything involving Robby Gordon that doesn't involve losing a ride.

You see how Hendrick cars (Gordon & Johnson), Penske cars (Newman and to a lesser extent Wallace), Roush cars (Kenseth & Busch and to a lesser extent Martin), DEI cars (Earnhardt, Jr and to a lesser extent Waltrip), Evernham cars (Kahne and to a lesser extent Mayfield), and Gibbs cars (Stewart and Labonte) can all dominate a race at any given time?

I cant remember the last time a RCR car dominated a race. Harvick is usually stuck between 10th-15th place. Robby is usually stuck between 15th-20th place. Blaney is always in the late 20's somewhere. The #30 car has been through like 5 drivers and 4 crew chiefs and no one has been able to get that car in the top 20 consistently. The main reason they get top 10's is due to other cars dropping out. I know for a fact that Robby's team uses the same 4 chassis all year long, and they are all over 3 years old. Big difference when you see other teams building and bringing new cars several times a year.

It becomes apparent when Robby gets the nose nudged in a little (at Loudon) and the car turns to crap despite fixing the damage and Kahne gets his nose bumped in (Pocono) and is still running in the top 5 despite the damage.

very good points, like any fan of Robby's, you always want to see your driver do well, it just seems a shame, especially when you consider that the man has quite a bit of talent and is in what should be his prime, that he is mired in the back due to BS that happens and then has to celebrate the season high finishes in the top ten.

I'd be glad to see Robby Gordon out of RCR. No disrespect to your driver but RG and Harvick don't seem to get along too well anyway. I have never seen two teammates trade paint more than these two. I mean RG almost spun Harvick out last week and then there's the road courses where they always seem to be in to each other. I think that's just both of their personalities coming out.

Well I think a changed of pace for RB will do him good by going to Gibbs team IMO.

Robby Gordon? Eh, it might work. I kinda had em pegged as going after Jeff Burton. Lets not forget that the new Gibbs ride is going to be J.J.'s ride in only a couple of years and every driver they try and sign is going to know that. Someone like Gordon might be more interested in sticking it out with RCR and hoping that things improve. Someone like Jeff Burton has nothing to look forward to next year as he spends yet another year lost in the Jack Roush racing weeds of being underfunded.

Well RCR is in a major downhill slide right now. They've been through how many drivers in the #30 now? AOL won't put up with it much longer. I think they should ditch the #30 at the end of this year and focus their money on the NBS and CTS using AOL as their sponsor in both series's until they find a permanant replacement driver that they are going to back 100% in the Nextel Cup. Whatever their decision somethings gotta be done. They are only about 5 years away from having to completely restructure their teams.

In less years Id say. Cingular signed on with RCR, but they wanted Robby to drive the car. Ive read several stories that said that Robby brought Cingular with him to RCR, but Cingular wont resign for next year if the team doesnt end up in the top 20 in points, and they cant move to another team due to Nextel. Supposedly AOL is gone from the #30 at years end too.

I totally agree with you on this one. WHIle Robby and RCR in general are struggling he should stick it out there. Jeff Burton is a good driver who deserves a sponsered ride. Its sad to see him in an all white 99 car when there are plenty of owners and sponsers looking for a good driver. Also J J will be in cup in a year or two so having Burton go there would make more sense then Robby. But who knows. This years silly season looks to be one of the craziest in a long time.

Dale used to be dominate with RCR for the most part. We all know they have great equipment. It has to be the drivers. Harvik came into the series like a storm and faded away for some reason, probably hiding tv announcers microphones too much. If I was a race car driver I would be trying to get into a zone before a race, but he always seems to be jacking around with someone. Robby seems like a hard charger but mabey has problems relaying to the crew how to change the car during a race. And the 30 car, well that makes a good tax write off.

well, the gibbs car seems like a good idea, I'd say that cingular should cut its losses with losing their driver and get out...that may force RCR to focus on a driver and make it work over there. Also, Robby has plenty of other things going on for him in the racing world, so I don't exactly think that maintaining the #31 car, or even worrying about the FedEx car for more than a year or two should worry him too much. It just seems like, if he could get into a decent car, where the owner was willing to say, "hey man, here's a good powerhouse with a new chassis" more than once a year, he could probably start smokin' fools left and right. That being done, after Yeley was ready to move up, he could EASILY find another ride...if not move up RGMotorsports to the Cup series with some backing from Gibbs for a year or two to get their in house program built up...Maybe get Regan Smith to drive a Busch car and then a second Cup car...just my idea.

My daughter taped the Sunday edition of Inside Nascar. I finally got to watch it last night as Robby was in the Hot Seat. He had no idea what they were talking about when Mike W. brought up Jayski's. (We have GOT to give him a clue!) Anyway, it was the first he had heard of a team change and has no plans, nor has he heard of any plans to go to Joe Gibbs. This may be the Gospel as it came from Robby, or it may be another Fatback situation. But, I tend to believe Robby.
