Robby Gordon will NOT be back with RCR in 2005:

#31-Robbie Gordon has confirmed that he and car owner Richard Childress will split at the end of 2004. Gordon told PRN's Garagepass, "The process is we've made the determination that our Busch car runs so competitive every weekend that we're gonna go ahead and make the step and move that to a Nextel Cup car in 2005. Obviously we'll have other announcements in the near future but our plan is to take our exisiting Busch car and roll that up to a cup program." When asked...so you won't be with RCR next year? Gordon said, "that's what it sounds like right now, so that looks like our direction...looks like the direction we're trying to head."(PRN's Garagepass Radio show)(10-22-2004)

I am not quite sure that I understand the preceding statement about moving the Busch car up to Cup by Robbie. The cars are quite different. They have different wheelbases. That is one reason why the Busch teams will undergo a big expense next year with the 2 road races added to the schedule. They will have to build brand new cars for those 2 races. They cannot simply buy a used Cup car for the 2 road races.

I don't think he ment to bring the act. car to cup. But he may shut down the Busch team and bring the team to Cup in a cup car.

WO, certainly no disrespect towards you at all, but when I see it "Officially" announced, I'll not only understand it better, but believe it too.

This has been a big season for announcements, and all kidding aside, I think this has been a REALLY SILLY SEASON in many ways.

When do we consider it OFFICIAL? Daytona?

No BS...Just wondering.

Patrick, What I mean is an official press conference, reports by reliable sources like TR, Nascar.com, etc.

I wish Robby luck if he's going it alone in Cup. Busch racing and Cup racing are two very different beasts. I wonder if Cingular is going to stick with him or if he starts in his underwear!

Wouldn't it be a sight to see him racing in his Fruit-of-the-Looms??????? :XXROFL: :XXROFL: :XXROFL: :XXROFL: :XXROFL: :XXROFL:
:EEEEK:  :p

Cingular can only sponsor RCR's #31 car. It's part of the Nextel deal. They can't change car that they sponsor, so it's either the #31 or out of Cup.

You would think PRN is pretty reliable....
That, and it was direct quote of Robby Gordon. It wasn't an "I heard Robby Gordon say........"
shrug.gif

Richard Childress said he'll lay out most of his 2005 season plans on Friday in a press conference in Atlanta, and yesterday he declined to confirm - but wouldn't deny - widespread speculation that he would name Dave Blaney as his new driver, replacing Robby Gordon, and Jack Daniels as a new sponsor, replacing AOL. Childress also had little to say, either way, about rampant rumors he planned to swap crews among his teams [see below or my #30 Team page or #31 Team page for the past news/rumors/links]. "All those announcements are in the coming," Childress said. Jack Daniels is owned by the Louisville, Ky., business Brown-Forman, which did $578 million in sales last year.

Future interview: Well.....the hash mark Chevy got a little loose after our run in with the Jack Daniels car through the tri oval. Sorry, I couldn't resist, Robby fans don't get bent outta shape at me. :)

I hope Robby does well and wish him the best. It sure is going to be tough being a single car team and it will be interesting to see who works with him on the track.

Did they change the hard liquor sponsor rules? I didn't think they could be a sponsor.

Lappy, what a compliment to have Oprah Winfrey as your avatar.

She is one of the most highly respected and successful women in America.

Among Winfrey's list of accomplishments include her being listed with Margaret Thatcher and Barbara Bush as one of the most recognized and respected women in America.

On top of that, Oprah is one of the wealthiest women in the United States having an estimated worth of six hundred million dollars.
She has been awarded fifteen Emmy Awards for her talk show, quite an accolade in its own right.

Oprah Winfrey is a woman who started from and with nothing and went on to show the world it can be done.
Winfrey did it with her own grit and determination, never using her race as a crutch.
She made her success the old fashioned way, she earned it.

Show that avatar with pride Lappy as Oprah Winfrey is a person we can all be proud of. She is a real winner, a true American success story and someone who is an ideal role model for the youth of this nation.

they haven't yet, but according to jayski they are seriously considering it. i think that they would be more inclined to change a sponsorship rule in the off season more so than mid season.

Then it doesn't seem like they could announce Jack Daniels as a sponsor this Friday in Atlanta.

Damn! I don't even know what I would do with that kind of Money!

Please excuse the error in my last post wherein it was stated Oprah Winfrey was worth six hundred million dollars.
Forbes magazines list of America's billionaires for the year 2003, included Oprah Winfrey as the first African-American woman to become a billionaire. Sorry for the incorrect information.

Winfrey has received accolades for her achievments from Time Magazine recognizing her as one of the 100 Most Influential People of the 20th Century. This covers men and women from the entire world and the past one hundred years !!!!!! Quite an honor.

In 1998, she received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

In 1999 she was presented with the National Book Foundation's 50th anniversary gold medal for her service to books and authors.

Oprah's Angel Network, starting in 2002, began presenting a $100,000 "Use Your Life Award" to people who are using their lives to improve the lives of others.

Awards such as these are given by prestigious people and organizations. Recipients are selected by successful people who have high visibility and are greatly respected. These people have built a reputation and place their integrity and credibility on the awards they give, defusing the accusation Winfrey is a "sham or fake".

Do you really think Oprah Winfrey would get these awards if she were not the real deal ?? Don't you think Oprah Winfrey would get front page negative stories in every newpaper in the nation if she was a "sham and a fake".
Look at the bad press Martha Stewart got and Oprah is a higher profile than Ms. Stewart.

Like someone said, opinions vary. I say, judge for yourself.

Whizzer are you a relative? Hey, for most of us she is simply an overpaid TV personality. She, in the few times I have seen her, has not showm me the talent that musicans and singers have that are on the TV.. Never doubt that her color did not have something to do with her position.

I thought she was absolutly fantastic in the movie "The Color Purple" and I believe won awards for it.

And I believe the things she does with her life and how she helps people should have her remembered as a great humanitarian.

I don't understand where you are coming from, that is about the most raciest statement I've heard in a very long time.

No Eagle1 I am not a raciest. Just a realist. As for the part in the movie there were prolly 12-15 other black women that would have done better.
You miss the point. It is hard enough to get as many women as a large company needs to keep up face in this politicaly correct world we live in...But to get a black woman that does the job she does is a real coup for a TV network. It is simply the truth that she is only a personality... It does not take talent to sit on a couch and do what she does. Well maybe a talent for sittin and talkin. BUT why is she so rich? You KNOW why...it is because she is a black woman doin the sittin and talkin.. And again I am not a raciest. Think about it Can she sing like Elvis? What the hell have they bought with all that money? All I have ever seen is her sittin and talkin.. But then again I don't watch.
B. ;)

You ever stopped to consider that maybe all that money didn't come from that TV show? Maybe she's smart enough to take the money she maked and make intelligent investments to multiply that money.
As far as the movie goes, it is Your opinion there were 10-15 others that could've done a better job. However, she had the part and did an excellent job and won awards for it.
Maybe what we learn in Sunday school is true, "if you unselfishly give to others you will be rewarded." Because Oprah has done MANY unselfish good deeds for helping others.
Racist never think they are racist, but just read your comments like a stranger wrote them.
I bet you think Martha Stewart has been unjustly treated and has earned all her money.

Okay. Could someone please tell me WHAT Oprah has to do with racing??? This is the General Nascar Chat portion of this board. If you would like to continue this conversation regarding Oprah Winfrey, please do so in the appropriate place, which would most likely be the General Chit Chat part of this board.

Oh, and I don't care who it was that got off on the tangent of Oprah, but I am putting a stop to it here where we are supposed to be discussing the topic of the thred, that Robby Gordon will not be back with RCR in 2005.

Thank you!

But if Robby is doing the talk show, will it still be sponsored by Cingular, or is the car that Oprah is driving going to be sponsored by her magazine?

Gordon Not Returning to RCR in 2005
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted on Oct 26, 2004, 11:59

WELCOME, N.C. (Oct. 26, 2004) – Richard Childress Racing (RCR) and Robby Gordon will part ways at the conclusion of the 2004 season, with Gordon stepping up to the ranks of NASCAR Cup Series ownership in 2005.

“Several months ago Robby told me that his goals included running his own NASCAR Cup Series team,” said Richard Childress, president and CEO of Richard Childress Racing. “He has won three points races, a qualifying race at Daytona and has had a lot of good runs for RCR since 2001, but sometimes change is good. Robby is a true racer and I will always be grateful to him for what we’ve been able to accomplish together and for the positive things he brought to our organization. I’ve always said that Robby is one of the most talented drivers out there and he has always gone above and beyond for our sponsors.

“I’m sure Robby will do just fine on his own. His Busch cars run good every week and I’m sure he can translate some of that success to the Cup Series. I wish him only the best.”

Gordon has earned three victories, eight top-five and 23 top-10 finishes in 114 races with RCR. He also won one of the Gatorade 125 qualifying races at Daytona International Speedway in 2003. He’s currently 23rd in the NASCAR Cup Series point standings.

“Driving for RCR has been an incredible honor and is an opportunity most drivers could only wish for,” Gordon said. “I’ve learned as much outside the car as I have in it with RCR, and Richard has taught me a great deal about the business of NASCAR. He’s a man of his word and someone I will always respect immensely. But I think everyone knows what my long-term goals are, both as a driver and a car owner, and now is the time for me to start my future as an owner at NASCAR’s highest level. If I can be half as successful as Richard has been, I’ll be very happy. We have been putting the pieces in place for our own team for most of the past year, and although we don’t have anything to announce yet for next season, we hope to make some announcements soon.”

The Southern California native has been with RCR since July 2001 when he was named interim driver for the No. 31 Chevrolet while Mike Skinner, the team’s regular driver, recovered from injuries sustained in a crash at Chicagoland Speedway. He was named the team’s fulltime driver in September and in November at New Hampshire International Speedway, in just his 10th start with RCR, he claimed his first NASCAR Cup victory. Soon after, Cingular Wireless was announced as the team’s primary sponsor for the 2002 season.

“Cingular Wireless is glad to have had Robby Gordon behind the wheel of the No. 31 Chevrolet for the past three seasons,” said Daryl Evans, Vice President of Advertising and Marketing Communications for Cingular Wireless. “He and the RCR team were able to take Cingular to the winner’s circle three times last year and we know we still have a great shot at getting back there before the conclusion of the 2004 season. Robby is a very talented driver and we wish him continued success in the future.”

An announcement on who will be the driver of the No. 31 Cingular Wireless Chevrolet in 2005 will be made this Friday, Oct. 29, at 2 p.m. (Eastern) in the infield media center of Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Looks like it was Robby's decision not to return to the #31 car.

I wish Robby the best of luck and I will continue to support him whatever he does.

Per the Busch Series race preview of Atlanta, Robby will be fielding two teams next season, the one he is expanding to Cup with will be in addition to his Busch Series car.
