Robby Gordon is the latest 'big name' driver to link up with the Volkswagen team for the forthcoming Dakar Rally, joining former world rally champion Juha Kankkunen and fellow Dakar winners Jutta Kleinschmidt and Bruno Saby in an expanded four-car squad. Though better known for his racing exploits, which include sportscar class wins in the Daytona 24 Hours and numerous single-seater and stock car victories, 35-year old Gordon is no stranger to off-road competition, having begun his career in the deserts of America, and is a two-time winner of the most famous US rally, the Baja 1000. The Dakar gets underway from Barcelona on 31 December and, after three short Spanish stages, crosses to Morocco for the start of the rally proper on 3 January. There are 13 special stages in North Africa, from Rabat through Mauritania and Mali, ahead of the final stage in the Senegalese capital on 16 January. Five of the stages are longer than 500km, and the longest is 660km. In total the rally covers nearly 9000km.(Crash.net)

Now I'm not willing to bet my soul on it, but I believe SPEED covers the Dakkar Rally. :D

KEWL! I am watching Speed as I type....can't do without SOME kind of racing, even if it's boats!

I bet he is happy to be running against drivers that don't know him. He will be able to put a bunch of them in the ditch before they realize how he drives.

Betsy, this race is so long, with so many different types of vehicles running, that competitors rarely see each other along the way --- other than the layovers at night.

And, I doubt there are many ditches to be found out in the middle of the desert where there are few roads.

Yeah TRL I know all that. It was just my way of saying what I think of his driving. I have had an unpeasent opinion of him since he bumped Jeffy out of the lead a few years back.

Wonder what Rusty fans think of Jeffy?
Just to keep the list short, I could add every drivers name here. ;)

What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

This is good for him.. Hope he does well.

You know? I hadn't thought of it like that, but I too wish him well. In fact I hope he does so good that he marries a dakar lady and makes it his home! ;)
Overseas would be right where i'd like him to do well.
Betsy ;)

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, and "I" thought "I" was the Dragonlady!!! LOL
Chill Betsy, I'm a "Jeffy" fan too, but I know he has been known to apply the chrome horn to his advantage a few times too!!!! They all do it at one time or another and we get over it. Robby is a racers racer!!!! Skilled and he has that determination to want to win that all drivers need to do well in any sport. I would like to see Robby stay in NASCAR and succeed too.

Howdy DL
No, you can keep the nick!
I am a fan of the sport. i like those who I think are the true racers. To name a few; Rusty, Mark, the corpus christi brothers, #8 (lil E is a terrible name), JJ and of course Jeffy. There are others but these come to mind now. There are a few that race because they are KIN to some of the real racers of the past. It is time for THEM to move on and let some new blood into the sport.
I watched as Jeffy came on the scene and won time after time winning over some of the best teams that have ever been.
I love to hear em boo and even love to see the boos in print here. It just means they know and respect him. It's just another kind of love.
