What up with that ? Hopefully he did not do that intentionally & ruin other drivers night for his own benefit.

As Jeff Burton said, this isn't the first time this has happened, and I doubt that it will be the last. I can remember many times when the roll bar padding has been a reason for a caution. Even with the video, it might be pretty hard to conclusively prove that it was Robbie Gordon who did it. Probably the only way that can prove this would be for each team to either color code their padding, or put their number on it. But I could see the teams changing the padding at some point in the race just in case. :)

I kinda love that idea Buckster so why not tatoo ALL teams' stuff from parts to gloves?

pick a rival team, paint a piece of padding their color, stick in uniform......

I did not see anything in front of his car and it appeared door height level when it was in the vicinity of Robby's car. High Definition Television really plays out well in situations like these. Robby also got the free pass on that caution. Hmmm.......

when interviewed he said that it came off from behind the car..i dont know if its just me but i kinda noticed robby's demeanor changed abit like he freak-out and didn't know what to say

Hey, I'm the biggest Robby Gordon fan there is and I would say with about 99% certainty that he threw the roll bar padding out the window. Anyone who saw the clip, saw him get the pass and then saw his interview and would still say that Robby isn't guilty as hell must be blind...or dumb.

Keep in mind, Robby Gordon is my favorite driver...but, hey, can you blame him?

At the same time, I'm not sure you can call finishing 13th place "ruining Jeff Burton's day". I mean, seriously.

He's not the first to do it nor the first to get away with it.So, of course he'll do it.

The restart after that caution didn't do any favors for a few guys, however.

NBC Sports has video of part of the interview online. :D

Robby definently threw it.

Who was it that threw the glove on the track?

NASCAR never found out.

Sure I can blame him! That is a blatant CHEAT! And dangerous for ALL the other drivers. Throwing that out the window insured him to get back on the lead lap before someone else passed him... BUT it changed the race for all the other drivers too. This event should be treated like any blatant attempt to cheat! Points should be taken away.. Money should be fined and the driver should be banned for the rest of the season. NO MATTER who did the throwing! If it had been Jeffy I would have the same opinion!
Betsy

Ps! If a fan had thrown something on to the track he would have been ejected.. And maybe arrested. Why should a driver be any different?

Seeing is believing? Nope, 'video was inconclusive' and Robby Gordon gets no penalty
By JIM UTTER
The Charlotte Observer
HAMPTON, Ga. - NBC video replays of Sunday’s Bass Pro Shops 500 clearly show a large piece of roll bar padding coming from Robby Gordon's car, which forced NASCAR to call a caution on Lap 291.

NASCAR officials, however, called the video “inconclusive,” and did not penalize Gordon.

Gordon was the recipient of the “free pass” on that caution for being the first car not on the lead lap. He ended up finishing 10th, tying his second-best finish of the season.

“The video was inconclusive. If he did it, he did it,” said NASCAR spokesman Herb Branham. “But looking at the video it was inconclusive to the point we could not react to it.”

In a post-race interview with NBC, Gordon said, “I definitely did not throw anything out the window.”

As the old saying goes.....If it looks like a skunk and smells like a skunk I don't need......

Would they make up their mind.

NASCAR not done with Robby Gordon investigation
By JIM UTTER
The Charlotte Observer
It appears the case against Robby Gordon is not yet closed.

NASCAR officials said Monday they are continuing to look into allegations Gordon tossed a large piece of roll bar padding from his car late in Sunday's Nextel Cup Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, which forced NASCAR to throw a caution.

At the time, Gordon was the first car not on a the lead lap and thus received the "free pass" which put him back on the lead lap. He finished 10th.

NASCAR rules prohibit drivers from intentionally causing a caution.

"As is the case after any race, we looked at a number of cars, including Robby Gordon's. And although we didn't find anything suspicious with the car at the time, we are continuing to review and discuss this situation," said NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp. "We are gathering all the information we can and we'll make a determination based upon what conclusions we're able to draw from that."

After the race, a NASCAR spokesman said a taped replay of the incident was "inconclusive." In a post-race interview with NBC, Gordon said, "I definitely did not throw anything out the window."

Up-close replays of the incident are available on NASCAR.com's subscription service, "TrackPass."

It seems to me that a sizeable amount of missing roll bar padding would be pretty obvious. I doubt Robby would carry extra padding just in case it might be needed. Just curious to me.

If the padding isn't needed, it shouldn't be there. If it is, well, throwing safety equipment out of the car is something I would think Nascar would want to take a serious look at.

I could see on my 61-inch DLP HDTV a hand come out of the window slightly as the debris came out of his car... Oh Robby did it. :D

Late Caution caused by roll-bar padding; Burton upset; Gordon guilty? UPDATE: #31-Jeff Burton was not pleased with how a piece of roll bar padding created a caution flag about 35 laps from the finish. Burton hit the wall on lap 268 and cut a right front tire. He pitted on lap 281 and fell a lap down. He needed the field to go through its final pit stop under green to catch back up with the leaders but never got the chance when the caution came out for the roll bar padding. "We were going to be OK and then they threw a caution because of a roll bar pad,'' Burton said. "NASCAR should stop every car on pit road and check for roll bar pads and whoever threw their's out should be fined 185 points and $100,000 because it was a huge impact on the race. ... It is starting to happen just too often and NASCAR gets on everybody when it happens. Well, they should find out who did it and penalize them.'' The roll bar pad appeared to come from 10th-place finisher #7-Robby Gordon's car, NBC video showed. "I definitely did not throw anything out of the window,'' Gordon told NBC after the race. NASCAR did not penalize Gordon, citing the video was inconclusive.(Roanoke Times)
AND NASCAR's John Darby, the Nextel Cup tour director, said his inspectors would go through the various team haulers checking race cars for missing roll-bar padding: "It was a very large piece of something black and round, and we don't know what it is when everybody is running at 190 mph. Now trying to prove whose it was is another story. But we'll be going through every car as they load them. But that's not to say it might not have been just under somebody's seat."(Winston Salem Journal)(10-30-2006)
UPDATE: NASCAR officials are investigating whether Robby Gordon intentionally threw debris on the race track to cause a caution at Atlanta Motor Speedway. "As is the case after any race, we looked at a number of cars, including Robby Gordon's," spokesman Kerry Tharp said Monday. "Although we didn't find anything suspicious with the car at the time, we are continuing to review and discuss this situation." NASCAR called for a caution about 35 laps from the finish of Sunday's race because a piece of roll bar padding was on the track. The timing of the caution severely hurt Jeff Burton, who was a lap down because of an earlier incident and needed the field to run through a final round of green-flag cautions to catch up. Gordon, meanwhile, benefited from the caution because he was the first car not on the lead lap. That gave him NASCAR's "free pass" [Lucky Dog] to get back on the lead lap, and he wound up finishing 10th. Burton, a championship contender, finished 13th and demanded after the race that NASCAR investigate to determine where the debris came from. That led NBC to review its race footage, which appeared to show the debris came from Gordon's car. He denied throwing it. Now NASCAR is looking into the issue. "What we saw at the time was debris on the race track, and for safety reasons, the caution came out," Tharp said. "We're gathering all the information we can and we'll make a determination based upon what conclusions we are able to draw from that."(Associated Press)(10-31-2006)
