IKE Turner, musician and ex-husband of singer Tina Turner, has died at the age of 76, his manager says.
Turner was one of rock's architects, but his wider infamy was as the man who brutally abused former wife Tina Turner.
No cause of death was given.
"He did pass away this morning" at his home in San Marcos, in northern San Diego County, said Scott Hanover of Thrill Entertainment Group, which managed Turner, according to the Associated Press.
Turner's career revived in recent years, doing world tours with his band the Kings of Rhythm, winning the critics over.
He won a Grammy this year in the traditional blues album category for Risin' With the Blues.
But his main fame was as the drug-addicted, wife-abusing husband of Tina Turner.
Actor Laurence Fishburne portrayed him in the movie What's Love Got To Do With It, based on Tina Turner's autobiography
