Rodney Dangerfield

Oh man, that blows! Rodney was one of the greats.

One of the all-time funniest people I can recall. He will be missed. :(

Another loss :(

Janet Leigh (the lady in the shower from Psycho) also passed this week.

you know, being a bit younger than many people familiar with the entire body of Rodney's work, some would say that I'm not in a position to be reminiscent, but I disagree. I can't say that I was a Rodney fanatic and I can't say that I've seen everything he's ever done, but I CAN say that all of the things I've seen him in were excellent. Rodney was able to skirt the line pretty well without really crossing over into extremely "blue" comedy and was able to stay culturally relevant even into his own age. One of the best things about Rodney was that he didn't stick tot he mantra of comedic traditoin and was able to pinpoint new talent very easily. For one example, I would point to Sam Kinison. Sam wallowed in a bit more questionable material, but he was able to channel his anger and energy into comedy and something more positive than agression...sure, some of his subjects were unfairly hurt, but I believe most of it was done out of ignorance. I digress...the important thing is that Rodney was no stick in the mud "old" comedian. He was able to be fresh throughout his career and be funny to many different generations. he will be missed greatly by the comedic community and by the masses of comedy fans everywhere.
