ROLE REVERSAL
Tony Stewart puts on his owners hat
Reigning NASCAR Nextel Cup champion Tony Stewart will switch from the role of driver to presenter on January 8th as he leads the champion’s honors and concludes his first year as owner of Eldora Speedway in Ohio.
After taking time off following his own champions week in New York, Stewart will honor Eldora’s champions, a task he looks forward to.
"I know exactly what these guys went through,” Stewart said. “A points chase is grueling, for sure, but the end results are gratifying and I'm excited to be able to share this moment of glory with them, and thank them for supporting my first-year efforts at Eldora".
Accepting championship honors at the Eldora Ballroom will be Chad Kemenah (Sprint), Aaron Scott (Late Model), Scott Orr (Modified) and Mike Dirksen (Stock Car), while those finishing behind them will be acknowledged as well, with trophies and point fund rewards.
Stewart will also present several 'specialty trophies'. Each of the four divisions will see honorees named for best improved driver, hard luck award and best appearing car award, while an overall sportsman of the year will be named.
Highlighting the busy day of accolades will be the crowning of the Sunoco sponsored American Late Model Series champion, Brian Ruhlman.
Geared primarily for the Eldora participants, there are a limited number of tickets being made available for fans wishing to join in the celebration. Priced at $23 per person, ticket requests will be received by mail only (13929 SR 118 - New Weston, OH 45348), and granted in the order of acceptance, until full. Phone and 'in person' sales will not be accepted. Tickets will not be available the day of the event.
Stewart will then slip back into his driver’s role, as he gets ready for the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals, which is slated for the following weekend January 11-14, 2006, at the Tulsa Expo Raceway.
