Sounds like he and SHR are actually serious about getting an opportunity on one of the road courses, potentially this summer. Cross-pollination is always fun to see.

The idea of Grosjean running in a NASCAR has been mentioned before – with the Frenchman telling Motorsport.com during a factory visit last year that he would be up for it.

"We may give it a go. I think it would be really cool," he said after sitting in a NASCAR on the day he was announced as a Haas F1 driver.

But that dream could become a reality sooner than many expected, as Stewart-Haas has admitted it is now investigating what needs to be done to get the Frenchman in to a race.

"It's definitely on our wish list," Joe Custer, chief operating officer of Haas F1, told Motorsport.com. "We just have to make it work — whether it be this year, next year, whenever that is. We're not sure."

Grosjean has scored points in three of the four F1 races this season. If the Frenchman elects to test the NASCAR waters, Haas' championship team SHR will do whatever it takes to accommodate the driver.

As Custer says: "There would be nothing more interesting than a current F1 driver having a good run in a NASCAR race. I thing that would be good for everybody. It would drive more interest."

"I'm not sure when it would happen, but it's on our list," explained Custer. "We would like to have him test. He would be a rookie.

"I don't think there are any barriers to any of this. We just have to figure it out and get it on the schedule.

"Then, five cars or four cars? Or does he work with another team in the garage. All of that. We have to work out the details and have enough time to make it happen."

Regardless of a driver's resume, he or she still has to be approved by NASCAR. Currently SHR has four cars, which is currently the limit for each organisation.

However, teams are allowed to run a fifth team for rookies (which is how Grosjean would be classified) in seven races.
 
I'm always in favor of drivers trying different types of cars. The opportunities are fewer and fewer these days due to sponsor and team restrictions. I think the Gordon - Montoya Trading Paint event started some foreign interest in NASCAR.

The above quote is from Lee Spencer's article at Motorsport.com. I believe that rule no longer exists, or at least I question whether it does. I recall discussion of that rule going away at the time the charter system details were being announced.

In thinking about why that 5th car rule might be terminated, I guess the rationale would be that it is unfair to non-charter teams who are attempting to qualify for four grid slots to have Hendrick, Gibbs, or SHR coming with an extra car. I can sorta see that, but I'd love to see Grosjean do this.

Organizations now have a hard cap of four cars; there will be no fifth car for rookie drivers.


This isn't the concern I had with the charter system, but is another example of how it is poorly thought out. I'm sure NASCAR would love the exposure of a current F1 driver in their race (and I'd like to see it too)
 
If they decide to do it, how won't be an issue.
 
I would get Gutierrez as well to tag along, both would be fun to watch.

I would like to see how F1 drivers fare in stock cars on the road courses here.

He drives for Haas F1, scored in three out of the four GPs so far and sits in seventh in the championship. First driver to score in a team's debut since Mika Salo in 2002. Did pretty well for Lotus after he got over the whole catastrophic first-lap crash ordeal.

I visited the shops two weeks ago and Gene is on his way to building a mini fortress with the two race shops - they are tucked away from the main drag but once you pull up its impressive.

But five minutes down the road Rick Hendrick and the little town he has built of race shops and performance centers makes me wonder how he ever loses a race.

Grosjean’s best opportunities for a road course appearance come with the Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma on June 26 and the Cheez-It 355 at Watkins Glen on August 7. However, the race at The Glen would cut into F1’s three-week summer break.

“That’s a problem,” Grosjean said. “Sonoma is better, I think.”

Sonoma may be better for Grosjean, but it would create a brutal five-weekend run of racing that involves a great deal of travel.

After the Canadian Grand Prix on June 12, Grosjean will venture to Azerbaijan for the nation’s first F1 race on June 19 before potentially heading to California to make his NASCAR debut.

Following Sonoma, Grosjean would then need to go straight to Austria for the next F1 race on July 3, which is then followed by the British Grand Prix one week later.

“It’s probably a bit heavier and more powerful,” Grosjean said of Cup cars. “The brakes don’t look to be the best brakes in the world. There’s a lot of contact as well. A few things to learn, but why not? It would be fun.”
 
Does not like road course racing. It is too challenging and boring for under trained American drivers.
