Ron Fellows has made a habit in recent years of being among the "hired guns" racing in Nextel Cup road races at Sonoma, Calif., and Watkins Glen, N.Y., the only non-oval races on the schedule.
But the Canadian driver and road racing specialist will be missing this weekend from the lineup at Infineon Raceway, seeing instead to his regular job in the American Le Mans Series race in Ohio.
"I looked into private jets and other ways of going back and forth from California to Ohio, but there was just not enough time," Fellows said.
Fellows has won five times in NASCAR road course races, including three times in the Busch Series and twice in the Craftsman Truck Series. His best finish in the Cup series has been second to Jeff Gordon in 1999 at Watkins Glen.
He drove for the Dale Earnhardt Inc. team in the two road course events in 2003 and is scheduled to join the team again in August at Watkins Glen.
