As long as its safe, look at Sadlers car was wrecked today. Would the hatch have held up? Would it do more harm in a roll over. Just a thought.

At the moment it is approved, but not required.
There has been testing in crashes and roll overs, but it is obvious that not every situtation can be tested. The design appears to be sound one and should hold up. It is a sheet metal change more than a structural one, so the integrity of the drivers cage should not be impacted.

Slugger said that if Mikey won, he would certainly do something with the roof hatch! IT was certainly entertaining. :lol: As for it being mandatory, I feel that it will come to that eventually. I think it is a good idea as to an alternate exit in certain situations.

Actually, there was not much left of Elliot's roof. I think they could have pulled off the metal sheeting if they really needed to get to him.
It's a good escape hatch in case the driver's side is against the wall, and he needs to get out in a hurry.
I don't know that it would be that great of a help to emergency crews in case the driver is incapcitated and unable to help himself. I still see them cutting the roof off to allow greater access.

I agree. It's a good idea and should not compromise cage integrity.

Looks like to me that someone like Mikey at about 6' 5. was knock out it would esayer to get to him through a roof hatch than through the window. And if you had to pull him out the roof would be better.
