Who was the ROTY year last year?

How about 2011?

Want to try 2010?

I guess ROTY doesn't mean much these days.

Now 1979 was a year for ROTY....

Only reason this award its still handed down is for tradition's sake. Otherwise, pretty meaningless.

I don't know about that. Next year it's going to have a pretty great year. Dillon vs. Larson should be a ROTY battle as entertaining as Johnson vs. Newman. I think it's only due to the lack of any talent coming into Nascar in so long.

2010-Kevin Conway
2011-Andy Lally
2012-Stephen Leicht

...and none of these guys are in the sport anymore.

Holy hell I would have never thought either of those guys had won it.

That's just terribly shameful.

With the influx of young talent coming up from Nationwide and Truck now and in the near future it should finally mean something again.

Kevin Conway had to go against Terry Cook, and Landon Cassill, now I see how he won.

Geez ... without looking it up I dont have a clue !! Should I be ashamed :dunce:

Im gonna guess that this years will be Stenhouse

Dont forget Allgier!

This award used to be celebrated. Not so much these days.

As far as young talent getting into the sport. I don't see any issue with the talent that's in the sport today. There is quite a crop of young talent heading in the Cup direction. It doesn't happen every year. It never did. The average age of the driver today I would think is far younger than 20 years ago. These drivers are getting into the sport at a far younger age than 'back in the day'.

I haven't really paid attention since Jr and Kensith had a good competition for ROTY. They both won a race during their first year and both congratulated each other on the winners podium.

Like'em or hate'em Ryan Newman and Jimmie Johnson had a helluva shoot out for it in 2002 and I enjoyed following it.

What rides are they exactly going to take? ROTY was great from the mid 90s to the mid 2000s because Nascar was booming. Sponsors were everywhere and quality rides were actually available.

Furniture Row reportedly wants a young driver. Gordon probably has only three full Cup seasons left at HMS at which point Chase Elliott should step in. Ty Dillon is a shoe-in for an RCR ride eventually. Swan Racing is experimenting with young drivers, Scott is using some of his young TSM drivers at Phoenix Racing. Biffle probably doesn't have much time left at Roush. After Larson vs. Austin Dillon I think 2016 and 2017 should bring a couple of good ROTY battles.

I think FRR will go with either Brian Scott or David Ragan. If it's Scott, then I see the ROTY battle only improving. I think 2015 will only be Trevor Bayne. 2016 will be Ty Dillon (in the 33) vs. James Buescher (in the 2nd TSM ride) vs. Chase Elliott (in the 24) vs. Ryan Blaney (in the 12) vs. Bubba Wallace (in the 11 or 4th JGR team). That year would be crazy.

James Hylton was the ROTY in 1966 and he is running his last ARCA race tonight.

Dont see Wallace making it to cup, other than that thats a totally realistic and awesome ROTY battle!

I don't know what the criteria were when the thing first started , but now it is simply a points thing and entirely dependent on who gets the best ride. How does that relate to who is the best prospect . I'd like to see it done by a vote in the garage area .Criteria should be driving skill , potential, and marketablity .

Marketability..... That should stir the pot. :D

Well , my point is , points (which can be manipulated ) and fan opinion (which we know is uninformed ) should be kept out of it . Fellow drivers , owners and crews know who is going to be great , especially if they can't vote for themselves .

Should they vote on the championship too?

Funny how the kybu brigade is always defending and making excuses for him instead of discussing other Nascar topics when all along his main statistic is HE HAS BEEN IN CUP IN THE BEST EQUIPMENT IN THE SPORT FOR 9 FULL YEARS WITHOUT A CUP CHAMPIONSHIP. Another Dale Sr. my ass.

I think we are at a transition point in NASCAR much like the early 2000's. Lot of good talent finally coming up and some of these guys I could see losing rides:

Biffle
Newman
Jr(Not losing ride but retiring after one more hard crash)
Gordon
