Interesting rookie class coming to us this year. If Dillon doesn't win ROTY it would be a complete failure. So, outside of him, who impresses?

Dillon will have the best season. How could he not?

Larson WILL win a race. Not sure if Dillon does, but Dillon will finish higher in points by a good margin.

Allgaier gets some top 10s. Has a better season than Stenhouse did in 2013.

Everyone else will be a backmarker.

Nobody.

Larson. Also, I don't really care for Allgaier really but I think he might turn some heads.

I am hoping for great things from Truex. Great kid. Great for Toyota. I am watching him. I get that he won't be running Top 5 or anything, but I would like to see him progress. All he wants to do is race man. Love it.

I had a dream the other night that Allgaier and Bobby Labonte finished 1-2 in the Daytona 500

I believe he is only Toyota for this year. He has a contract with Petty, and is only on loan to BK.

Is Dillon even eligible for ROTY? It used to be that a rookie couldn't have run more than 5 Cup races to still be eligible.
Don't know if the 5 race max is still the rule, but I think Dillon started 6 Cup races in 2013.

From Wiki:

Eligibility
Drivers must meet the following criteria in order to be eligible to run for or receive the Rookie of the Year award.
  1. Must have run no more than five (prior to 2001), seven (2001–10), or seven and have been declared to race for driver points in that series (2011-present), races in any previous season.[1]
  2. Drivers who compete in more than five races in a higher NASCAR-sanctioned series are not eligible for the award in a lower series, if they have not declared for the higher series.
  3. If a driver does not start eight races before the end of Race 20 on the schedule, they will immediately become ineligible to earn rookie points for the rest of that season and starting in 2011, remained declared for that series. Drivers may change series declaration in order to avoid this.
  4. A driver may not receive rookie points if he/she starts a race for a team that he/she did not qualify with. However, he/she is still eligible for championship points in that race.

So Dillon is eligible for ROTY because he wasn't racing for driver points in the Cup series, or am I reading that wrong?

"....or seven and have been declared to race for driver points in that series (2011-present), races in any previous season".

Well, that clears things up. It's like it was written in pig latin with an accent.

I think Dillon has an unfair advantage. I do not like him. I do not like Richard Childress. I will not be pulling for RCR in 2014. I hope Larson kicks some spoiled brat ass.

You took the thoughts right out of my mind. The Dillon boy is in better equipment for sure but Larson is the better driver. Dillon will win ROTY. Pop Pop will make sure he gets the best stuff RCR has.

Nice to see all the new talent coming in to the Cup Series. Dillon, Larson, Allgaier, Kligerman, Whitt, Truex, Bowman, can't remember the last time we had a rookie class this big.

Larson and Dillon are clearly the favorites. I see Larson doing better than Dillon.. but not this year... Dillon has won 2 series championships in 3 years and earned his ride.. Larson comes with opromise but he hasn't really showed he can win yet. I think he will, but this year Dillon will have the advantage.. neither will win a race.

Hog wash.

Dog poop

I'm still trying to comprehend why it wouldn't make sense to put your drivers in the best equipment possible.

It doesn't make sense. But then again, neither does proclaiming any one driver to better than another if those two drivers are not on equal footing.

Dillon fans will boast about his monumental abilities while his critics will always attribute any success he may have to his priveleged existence.

Until Larson is in the #48 for HMS, the excuse for him will awlays be subpar race cars and crew.

Anyone care to keep score on who gets the most excuses made for and against them this year? I know I that I don't :D

Yup, there is some good talent in that group. Four of them in my Toyotas. Pretty cool. I think the refreshing part of this is that there guys are racers and with obvious exceptions are coming to the big show without the benefit of big money sponsorship behind them. Gonna have to do something other than wear a bikini and date another driver to earn your place this time around.

Best rookie class since 2006, I would have to say.

I think outside of the obvious two Parker Kligerman makes some noise. Allgaier will also have a few races where he keeps his head screwed on straight and gets some surprising results.

Good to have another Toyota fan on board. We can share the wrath of the 'Yota haters this season :)

I'm with you man. I have been a NASCAR fan for a long time--intensely since Toyota came to the party--I was following Toyota through the F1 stuff, etc. 41 wins among the three series last year and the leading builder in terms of wins for TRD. Good year, but we need that Cup. I get the haters--the Darkside crashed their party. Oh well, we are here to stay. Toyota loves NASCAR.

Same here. Been a NASCAR fan since the mid-'80s, but I've always owned and been a fan of Toyota's street cars, so I was happy to see them come into the sport. That first year in Cup was pretty hard to watch, though. Glad things are better now. Just have to add a Cup and a Daytona 500 win to the mix.

Oh hell yes on the Daytona 500! That is one of those races where when it's done, if we don't win it, my first thought is "364 more days until we have another shot." I want it badly, and I think that we have one hell of a shot this year. The valve spring deal last year taught us a ton. Look at the reliability and speed post 500 on plate tracks. Brutal growing pain, but it's done, and we move forward. We were fast in testing. We will be good.

How long have you been a nascar fan, and why do you love Toyota so much?

Get a room. :p

How long have you been a nascar fan, and why do you love Toyota so much?

Thanks for asking both questions. I have been a regular fan of NASCAR for about 30 years or so. Like I said, I didn't really start to study the sport until Toyota entered.
My passion for Toyota started when I bought my first car. Didn't think I could afford Toyota quality, but somehow I made it work and bought a '90 Toyota Tercel. That thing had to be reliable because I didn't make enough money to fix it. Never had to worry in 15 years of ownership. It. Never. Broke. I have since owned nothing but Toyotas, and I will die having never owned anything else. I am 8 Toyotas in now.
The translation of my passion for Toyota intensified when they entered NASCAR. Honestly, I winced when I heard they were coming. I am so passionate about this company that as excited as I was, I would have rather not listened to the inevitable and understandable crap that was about to be flung. What amazed me about Toyota and specifically TRD was the way Lee White brought the company to NASCAR. Toyota has always respected NASCAR's heritage, and has been a partner to NASCAR. They put money in when the economy sucked. They have pledged a long term partnership. They didn't cherry pick teams. They endured the early years with MWR, and only partnered with JGR when they were shown the finger by Chevy. When they have screwed up (valve springs, Matt's piston rod), they have stood up and taken then blame when they could have easily blamed suppliers, etc. In a nutshell, they have done things the right way. I would suggest that NASCAR use Toyota as a template for future manufacturer involvement. Bottom line is that Toyota didn't just show up to play--they partnered with NASCAR in order to play the right way.
Evidence that this corporate philosophy of partnership, integrity, and passion still exists is in the seamless transition from Lee White to David Wilson. Mr. Wilson has continued the legacy of Mr. White in impressive fashion, and, in my mind, has Toyota/TRD on the brink of a Championship this year. I respect the corporate philosophy of Toyota/TRD. I also like the direct manufacturer involvement of Toyota through TRD. Other manufacturers support specific big time builders to advance their engines. Toyota has TRD. The skeptics might suggest that Chevy and Ford throw money at NASCAR while Toyota throws resources into TRD thus keeping the sport closer to the manufacturer. That might be harsh, but you get the point. The TRD angle to Toyota's NASCAR involvement is very impressive to me.
Sorry about the long post, but your question regarding my passion for Toyota is pretty deep and I think, thoughtful.

I worry that Larson may not have the equipment to be competitive, the 42 hasnt been much in the past.

Not to worry Larson fans. I'm sure the sun glare coming off of the silver spoon sticking out of Austins piehole will cause him driving issues allowing for Larson to take the Rookie of the Year honors.
