Roush Goes On Offensive
Roush Racing officials went on the offensive in their battle with NASCAR over a proposed rule that would cap the number of teams one owner could field at three. A five-page, 10-point argument on the advantages of having multicar teams in NASSCAR was left in the media room at LMS and made available to the sanctioning body. It was authored by Smith. Among the arguments outlined in the document:

During the past five years no driver has repeated as champion

Multi-car teams have provided the “big break” for at least 19 drivers, including Mark Martin, Tony Stewart, Kasey Kahne and Jeff Gordon

In 1990 there were 24 teams competing fulltime in Cup, compared to 38 today

A cap would represent a significant loss of income to every owner.
Roush Racing and Hendrick Motorsports are the only organizations with more than three full-time Cup cars. Roush Racing has five teams, all in the championship chase. Hendrick Motorsports fields three.(The State)

So, Jimmie's monte carlo isn't counted as a Hendrick car, but rather a Gordon car? I thought Hendrick had Gordon, Busch, Vickers and Johnson.

well thats just wrong...hendrick fields 4 along with a 5th part time car.

i understand multicar teams help...and i think they do too....i think 4 and 5 cars are too many though...you can still benefit with 2 or 3 cars.

this is perfect for the sport.

:): Roush can go on the offensive all he wants but there will still be a cap. :)

The more and more NASCAR puts out these pointless rules...the more and more I like watching F1, Champ, and IRL. The more I learn about each division, the more I can see NASCAR doing wrong.

I can honestly say, within the next 3 or 4 seasons, I may not watch NASCAR at all. =(

I wish I had a dollar for everytime I've heard that. My friend, NASCAR has been changing for a long time and it isn't going to stop because you don't like the direction it's going. You either adapt to where it's going, or take a hike. I know of only one person in the last five years who did just that but all the others are still watching the sport, still complaining, and still saying they will stop watching. I guess they just haven't found the right time to stop.

i dont really understand this statement...the type of racing we see today is what f1 champ and indy have been doing for years...nascar is heading in the same direction as those other sports...........your fathers nascar is gone..and it will be gone until the fad wears off and they come crawling back to its old fans.

Who in the hell even insinuated it should change because I don't like it?

And so far as complaining and still watching, yeah I'm still watching, far less than I did three years ago, and it seems less and less even this year. I wouldn't miss a lap awhile back, now I'm lucky if I catch the last 20 laps of a 'regular season' mid-summer race.

So, I guess if I was the only one complaining, yourself included Buck, then you could go tossing stones about 'adapting' or 'taking a hike'. Perhaps you missed almost 75% of the posts on the forum complaining about something NASCAR's doing.

There's distinct differences in all those series in comparison to NASCAR, for one they allow new technology. I mean really, when was the last time Detroit even produced a vehicle with a carburetor? On top of that each series allows for profit sharing amongst teams, which brings the manufacturers closer to the sport, which breeds technology.

I don't want to get into a debate about which is better NASCAR vs Other Series, my point is the rules are clearer, they offer more for the drivers/owners/fans. And they're very open, I mean FIA's rulebook is online, NASCAR's rulebook is some big secret hidden away in Brian France's panties.

It's just getting old for me to see some really good drivers and teams being hampered by what amounts to be a good ole' boy system instituted and perpetuated by the France family. From track-to-track, from sanctioned event to sanctioned event NASCAR, in some situations, just makes decisions that are silly.

awaits everyone to jump to NASCAR's defense whilst bashing away in another thread...go ahead, you know you want to

#1 I suggest that some read the article again as it clearly states that Roush and Hendrick have MORE than 3 teams.

#2 Buckster makes a good point in that it seems we all like to complain about changes.

#3 CHANGE BREEDS CHANGE, and 99% of the time somebody is NOT happy.

#4 GET OVER IT.......Love it or Leave it. JMO and your miles may vary

YEP i complain all the time about Nascar, i've followed it since 1967, and i will still be following it in 2006. I will have to admit though that i don't sit and watch every lap like used to. There were seasons where i never missed a race, now i probably miss 8-10, usually because there is a Red Sox game or it is such a nice day i have better things to do with my time. I still think Nascar is the most entertaining form of racing on TV.

Complain all you want. Last I heard, it was your right. No one has to agree with everything being said here or anyplace else for that matter.

ive been watchin for as long has i can remember...ive stated before that im 26 and have been watching racing for probably 20 of those years.....i used to be one of those guys that would never miss a lap of a race or a race at all....now i dont care if i miss a race...its getting boring, the rule changes are crazy, ive learned to accept it, thats always been a part of nascar...but the new marketing schemes and taking races away from their loyals fans has gotten old......i never missed a race at charlotte...but didnt buy a ticket this time around....im tired of spending hundreds of dollars to go to a race where everything is politically correct and watching company spokemen speak about their cars and how great everything is...........Football season has started.....theres better things on tv than nascar now...didnt used to be that way for me....but oh well.....nascar is giving into the cash cow.

Fer cryin' out loud, I never said y'all should stop complaining. Sheesh, that's all we all, including me Kyle, seem to do these days. What I was saying is that no matter what we, myself included, think of the direction that NASCAR is going, it's not going to change. I mentioned that I know of only one person who has told me and thousands others that he would stop watching NASCAR racing if such and such happened. It did and he quit.

Kyle, I could say that if you think you can make a better product, no one is stopping you from going ahead with your idea, but of course, I'm pretty sure that you don't have the capitol to make such a plan have any wings. That, telling you that, would be pretty rediculous and would be a personal attack, something that I try very hard not to do. All I'm attempting to convey here is it seems that instead of trying to enjoy a race here and there, we seem to be bitching more and more. Yes, I was in that category a few years ago, and no one was worse than I was when it came to bitching. However, I've since taken a totally different approach to the sport and I enjoy it much more. I'm not even going to try and talk you or anyone else into changing their outlook for the sport, nor will I try to tell anyone to stop complaining about it. It's just my opinion and as do you, I've got plenty of them.
