Roush wants more races?

Car owner Jack Roush said he wants to add more races to the Winston Cup tour. Listen to the gasping in the NASCAR garage. "Who says we're burning drivers out?' Roush said.'If these were milk farmers, they'd be milking cows twice a day. If they were hay farmers, they would be bailing hay every day. What we do is carry a very exciting entertainment product 36 times a year, and I think we need to race 40 times or more."

:EEEEK:
Can you blame the guy though...he has the best chance to win a race out of everyone!

I see his point.I work 40 hours or more a week for a LOT,LOTx10 less money than these guys make in 3.5 hours on sunday! :) :p

More seriously, before it is dismissed as being uncaring, the CREWS with families are the ones who would suffer most.I think the number of races as it is now is about right.

Thats a good way to weed out the lower budget teams. Wreck a few cars and you miss some races.

Good point...the modern day economy is barely supporting the current schedule for the little guys.

trust me, these guys work a lot more than 3.5 hours a week

Roush is a nut if he thinks they need more races.

 What the heck is Roush smoking, I think 36 is plenty.

I'd personally be all for more races but that's just my Nascar addiction comming out!

Personally,I think that 36 point races are plenty,I'd really like to see NASCAR find an open date somewhere in the middle of that 20 straight races stretch in the latter half of season,IMO,the driver's shouldn't have to race more than 12 staright races in a stretch, but that's JMO.

Besides,if NASCAR made it a 40 race season,I'm sure that all We would see would be 4 more cookie-cutter(yawn)tracks anyway,JMO! ;)

I agree....as much as I would like to see races all year, I don't have problem with only 36 races....

NASCAR already has one of the longest sports seasons around, and the break hits during the holiday season, so it flys by way fast.

The NFL takes a 5-6 month break, baseball about 5 and so on...

I can definetly handle a 3 month break.

Give the guys break so we don't start getting drivers who only stick around for a couple seasons becuase the schedule is too long.

More races would have a varied effect on different people. The drivers themselves would not be overly affected. Some would be away from there families more (mainly kids in school). But most drivers would be able to afford to get the kids to the track on the weekend.

This would tremendously affect the pit crew and those that work in the shop. These people put in an insane amount of time. I wouldn't even compare it to the average fans 40-50 hr week. I think some of these guys work twice that. However, that is also the choice they make.

I don't think adding races will help the fan base. It may actually burn out the fans. Fans need some off time to recharge every now and then. I love steak, but I don't eat it morning, noon, and night, 24/7.

well i work 50 + hours a week for 50 weeks a year, i would love to work 36 weeks a year

I hear that!

But lets give these guys the credit they are due, sure it seems like these guys have it easy, but they are the best of the best...I wouldn't last 2 laps much less 36 weeks. I guarantee you there are more CEO's who work less and make more than there are drivers in all the NASCAR series!!

If it was easy to work 36 weeks a year and get paid a couple mil in the process, everybody would do it....(I know I'd be first in line!) Quite frankly, I admire the drivers more than any of CEO since I can check weekly on their performance!

i am not trying to take anything away from the drivers i know they work hard and must be very talented
The crews , hell those guys are the real deal, work all week in the shop to get ready and alot of them also pull weekend duty at the track. can you say workaholic (sp)

I would trade jobs with any of them in a heart beat.

Sounds like we're in the same boat....I'd love to be doing something that I loved, that was fun and exciting, and get paid!

I certainly wasn't trying to put you down or even infer you were taking anything away...just making sure they get their due for where they are and why they are there.

, I'd give my left arm to do what these guys do! But then I would really suck being a one-armed driver! talk about missing shifts...but I digress....

I'm all for it, if they Give Darlington its date back, then another short track or two and another road course. But we all know Mike will stand right up for that, heh.

They used to run all year long back in the day. So what if a couple teams can't make the race, more times than not there are more than 43 teams at a track anyway. I say bring it on.

what if we had like 40 races, but teams had to choose 4 races not to enter in. That would be wierd, and more people would still be contendors. Just a small dumb suggestion! :D
