We did Rocky Mountain Race Week on the OLD section of Route66 between Tulsa and Oklahoma City the last 2 years. You wont be able to take an RV on it due to weight zoned bridges, but you can stop near and walk or bike it from NEW Route66.

Just a warning: Many roads in Arkansas and Oklahoma are...lets just say that some are un-deserving of being called interstates or highways.

@Clutch ya can't say I didn't warn you. haha. Yea, Oklahoma roads are horrible. It will get better as you re-join I-40 from Amarillo westward.

Amarillo by morning....

Late afternoon actually
After you leave Amarillo about 70 miles west will be the New Mexico state line and the first exit which is just past the rest area is Russell's Travel Center at exit 369 and they have a free museum inside that has a lot of nice cars and other cool historical items to check out. It is definitely worth stopping and checking it out if you have the time.

Left Elk City, Oklahoma in the rain this morning. Drove on the old 66 from Erick to Shamrock. That's 2 lanes but I'm driving down the middle. Nobody else in the road.

Darn it. Passed right on by without thinking. I was in a hurry to get on the road and being directed by 3 backseat drivers was in Tucumcari before I knew it.

It is so cool to see your adventure across America. Even with the extreme number of miles that I have logged traveling across this country most of my life to make a living... I'm seeing so many things I have never seen before. :punkrocke

This morning we the very cool Hotel El Rancho in Gallup, NM and took the old route 66 into Arizona then took the I-40 to the Petrified Forest National Park. Toured around the park and have just arrived in Holbrook for the night at the Wigwam Motel.
