Rudd coming back to Yates

Yay!!!!!!!!!!! :D This is sooooo friggin' awesome!!!!!! :D

Ricky is back!!!!!!!!! :D

And nobody better to help out David Gilliland and Stephen Leicht! :D

I have a little different take on the hiring of Rudd . You have to remember that The Rooster has gone 13 seasons winless out of 30 and most of those years were in some pretty good equiptment . Am I the only one that remembers why Rudd was cut from Yates in the first place ? Forget about that Jarret hated him and was whispering in Doug Yates ear every chance he could that he should axe Rudd , and forget that most of the team hated Rudd, remember the #2 engine guy at Yates punched him in the face giving him a black eye just before he left. Rudd said and did some things that made him persona non grata for almost every good team in NASCAR.
What the hiring of Rudd tells me is that the deal with DEI went south and Yates had to grab someone that he could lure a sponsor with in the short term . An organization that hires a driver that will turn 51 this coming season is not a team that is looking to the future it is a team that is trying to patch things untill they can sell while wrecking as few cars as possible in the mean time .

Sorry if I dont do the happy dance for someone that has spent the last 20 years bad mouthing Dale Earnhardt behind his back . I see as much success for the kid from Als junk yard in this coming season as I do for Bill Elliot.

Multi, I agree with you. But, I always like Ricky. Hope all goes well.

Don't know about your last sentence.

I don't have anything against Rudd, but I don't see how he is going to help RYR. I hope he does well. Robert Yates is my favorite owner.

speaking as someone who worked for Ricky Rudd in High School....the dude is probably the nicest guy in the garage...he also did not spend the past 20 years bad mouthing Dale Earnhardt behind his back..he respected him..i know that from first hand knowledge.

you have no clue what you are talking about.

Ricky also has one of the longest if not the longest winning streaks in Nascar History.....he won a race in 17 seasons in a row....something that Dale Earnhardt nor Richard Petty would able to do.

im happy as hell that he's back in a race car...he deserves to be...he's a great guy...and a great driver.

Once again, someone speaks with his heart and not his brain. I'm sure if you asked Ricky's relatives, they will all say he is the greatest. But you can always find someone who disagrees.

This might be a good move for RYR, in that now there is someone there who does have experience, lots of it, and might just be a good tutor for those youngsters Yates has. If it takes an old name to get a sponsor, I'd do the same thing. One needs that money in order to stay in business and RYR is no different than anyone else.

Ricky has proven what he can do on the track, but off the track as well. I've seen him make some pretty crazy moves in his career, but most of the guys screw up from time to time also. Ricky can be a hot head at times and that gets him into trouble, but it's what happens on the track the ultimately count. If he can produce for Robert, it will be a success, but if he doesn't, it will only the be latest of a long list of failures for the RYR teams.

I'm glad to see old Rooster come back, he's one of my favorites. I just see him being around a short time with the season being so long now adays.

Does anyone really expect Ricky to win with RYR.

Ricky Rudd would be one very good mentor for the other members of the team and all in all, it should be positive for RYR as Ricky certainly knows when to hold and when to fold.

Rudd, badmouthing Earnhardt behind Dale's back????? That sure is a surprise since Ricky Rudd is a straight up, tell'em to their face kinda guy and people directly associated with the series when these two were active, know that. They stood toe to toe on more than one occasion and told each other what they thought.

Anytime there was conflict between Rudd and Earnhardt, they were both quite vocal in expressing themselves to each other and the media and neither went behind the others back to make negative comments as there was never a need to.

I have never worked for Rudd but I have worked with several people including Larry Lackey and none of them were in high school at the time , they are all professional racers and have a much different opinion of him then you do .

My opinion is based on first hand conversations with people that had to deal with Ricky Rudd on a daily basis .

Heres something that happened when you were about 10 years old

I will skip all the things that Harvick had to say about Rudd but you may find this interesting .

That was hard racing period. I remember that race, and if it happened today or in this era it would be one of those racing things. However it happened to iron head while running for the championship, so it was a big deal. Just hard racing.

As far as Harvick, who has he not gotton into a canflict with in the garage?

I posted that clip because I thought it was interesting what Dale had to say at the end even though its kind of hard to hear his exact words, besides that it was just one heck of a race .

I did not post Harvicks comments for just the reason you mentioned.

There is some serious mileage between saying Ricky Rudd is difficult to work with and saying he was bad mouthing Earnhardt or someone else behind their back.

Meanwhile, the example clip from "Your Tube" shows nothing other than good, hard, short track racing between Earnhardt and Rudd. Later comments show Rudd being gentlemanly about the incident and Earnhardt a not so happy camper. No back stabbing or indicators Ricky is hard to deal with.

Confrontations between Rudd and Harvick were face to face and if anything, it seems Harvick is more the guilty party when it comes to bad mouthing behind Ricky's back as seen by most of the comments made while Rudd was not present.
Rudd didn't get the name "Rooster" for nothing. Ricky got it for his spirited manner and "in your face style". Sterling Marlin knows first hand.

Multimatic, where were you working when you worked with Larry ??

First of all, who else does Yates have that has more experience than Rudd??
Secondly, how many other guys out there in good equipment are winless in 13 seasons??

Future prognostication:

Rudd finishes the season in the #28 with 2 top fives and 5 top tens. Robert Yates Racing goes winless for a second year and Rudd finishes 25th in the series points standings.

you guys seem to forget that rudd did win in the 28..............

i've always liked rudd and still do. he's always raced hard and is as up front as they come in nascar. unfortunately, he's also on the downside of his career with a team that needs major rebuilding. time waits for no one and i think N2racin88's prognostication is pretty much on the money. i'm hoping he finishes in the top 20.
