Former NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Ricky Rudd signed with SPEED this week to be an analyst on the popular weekend motor sports news program, SPEED Center. Rudd, a winner of 23 Cup Series races, including the 1997 Brickyard 400, was named one of NASCAR's 50 Greatest Drivers. "Anytime you add someone with Ricky's credentials, you give the viewers a voice and a perspective that has real impact," said SPEED President Scott Ackerson. Scheduled to begin Feb. 12, Rudd could be in for a long run on the network. After all, his 788 consecutive starts are the most in Cup history, earning the Chesapeake, Va., native the honorary title of NASCAR's "Ironman." "I'm really looking forward to the next chapter," said Rudd, the 1977 Rookie of the Year. "It's going to be a lot of fun working with the gang at SPEED." Also added to the SPEED team this week, former Miss Sprint Cup Monica Palumbo joins the network as a Social Media Reporter. Palumbo, the longest-serving Miss Sprint Cup, held the position from 2008 through last season and appeared on NASCAR Race Hub and other SPEED programs in that role. As a Social Media Reporter, Palumbo works with producers, creating original SPEED content for Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other social media outlets. In addition, she provides reports from various tracks and locations and serves as a broadcast contributor with social media updates from second-screen touch points.(SPEED)(2-8-2012)

Very cool IMO. I like both Rudd and Monica. It'll be nice to see Rudd back in the sport in some capacity and also it's good to hear that Monica is still going to be involved somehow.

Suppose he'll be permitted to actually state his TRUE opinion about things? Be nice to see someone different for a change either way

For myself , I prefer the quieter Ned Jarrett /Benny Parsons approach than the loud Wallace/Waltrip approach .I don't think nutcase announcers add to my fan experience . Hopefully Rudd can give us some inside information like a gentleman.Boogity , boogity yourownself.

wasn't it rudd that told a reporter that he didn't mind racing with ernie irvin and that if ernie ran into him he'd put him in the wall? something like that, it's been a few years. this was early in ernie's career when he was called swervin irvan. that's really the only memorable thing i remember ricky saying. great driver though. :)

He could possibly toss water bottles at Rusty Wallace or maybe kill Bill Elliot's tire changer again.

I remember those incidents . They were just racin deals back then . Nowadays it's a big deal. Ricky could be fiesty when wronged , that was great . No need to be too over the top in the broadcast booth though.

Rooster never holds back! Wonder if he still has that fire? Could be good or at least interesting.

I'm thinkin he may be a little like Kenny Schrader , interesting and informative ,knows when not to talk.

Remember Rudd and Harvick at Richmond and that big ape of Harvick's jumping up and down on Rudd's hood? Funny s**t :D

And what are those? I can't say I ever remember him ever speaking out about anything before.

I remember Wallace dumping him one time and Rudd telling the media how that's the reason he's called block head in the garage.

Didn't Rudd say something like 'He's got that little yippy voice, I can't understand him' after a run in with Kevin Harvick?

Ricky has always been one of my favorites hes one of them guys that would stay in it till it blew up or he won. He taped his eyes open after he was injured in a wreck to drive the next week. Won Martinsville while he was being severely burned inside his car and had to do his interview on his back in victory lane. I wish we had more drivers with the balls he had to shut up and get the job done and not bitch at their crew chief all day.

That's pretty much all Cup drivers. All talk and no action.

I'm looking foward to guys like Stenhouse, Aric and a few others to come up and resist being squeezed into the 'respect' mold and keep the hard nosed attitude behind the wheel. You want it? Race me for it.

It will be good to see Rudd back in the sport. I still have my Tide cap.
