I understand the penalty for car 48 and that the crew is reponsible for the buuilding the car according to NASCAR rules. What I don't get is why the driver got dock points when he has no hand inthe building of the car. Can anyone explain this ruling it really seems unfair.

The driver is part of the team, when they dock points they aren't docking the "drivers points" its the "teams points".

Plus, when you're talking about multi-million dollar race teams a 100k fine is like a slap on the wrist. Docking points hits them where it really hurts.

Drivers get all the glory when the team wins and all the crap when they don't...Kinda like quarterbacks .. Great question Frank ..keep em comin.

I just think it comes down to risk/reward. Points hurt way more than the money. And NASCAR knows that teams won't take risks that could result in one of their drivers losing the championship.

It hurts the team more and in theory should be more of a discouragement to cheat. Obviously, Chad is thick headed.

Since the penalties over the years have varied between teams I wonder if there are any references with regard to the severity of penalties, based on infraction, listed in the rule book.
