Rush Limbaugh needs to be FIRED

PHILADELPHIA (Oct. 1) - Rush Limbaugh insisted Wednesday he had "no racist intent whatsoever'' in saying the media have overrated the Philadelphia Eagles' Donovan McNabb because they want to see a black quarterback succeed.

In fact, the conservative commentator said he must have been right; otherwise, the comments would not have sparked such outrage.

Limbaugh offered no apology, and McNabb said it was too late for one anyway.

"I'm sure he's not the only one that feels that way, but it's somewhat shocking to actually hear that on national TV,'' the NFL star said. "An apology would do no good because he obviously thought about it before he said it.''

Before McNabb led the Eagles to a 23-13 victory over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, Limbaugh said on ESPN's pregame show that he did not think McNabb was as good as he was perceived to be.

"I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well,'' Limbaugh said. "There is a little hope invested in McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he didn't deserve. The defense carried this team.''

Limbaugh did not back down during his syndicated radio talk show Wednesday.

He reiterated that he does not think McNabb is a bad player, just that he isn't as good as some members of the media think he is.

"This is such a mountain out of a molehill,'' he said. "There's no racism here, there's no racist intent whatsoever.''

"All this has become the tempest that it is because I must have been right about something,'' he said. "If I wasn't right there wouldn't be this cacophony of outrage that has sprung up in the sports writer community.''

On Wednesday, Democratic presidential candidate Wesley Clark said Limbaugh should be fired. The retired Army general called the remarks "hateful and ignorant speech.''

The NFL disclaimed any responsibility for Limbaugh's remarks.

"ESPN knew what it was getting when they hired Rush Limbaugh,'' league vice president Joe Browne said. "ESPN selects its on-air talent, not the NFL.''

ESPN spokesman Dave Nagle said he did not believe the comments were racially biased. "He was comparing McNabb's performance on the field to his reputation in the media,'' Nagle said.

Chris Berman, who anchors the ESPN show, said he did not believe Limbaugh's tone or intent was malicious. "As cut and dry as it seems in print, I didn't think so when it went by my ears,'' he said. "I probably should have looked to soften it.''

McNabb, who was runner-up for the MVP award in 2000 and has led the Eagles to two straight conference championship games, said he has no quarrel with Limbaugh's comment on his playing ability. "I know I played badly the first two games,'' he said.

But McNabb said that the comments about his race were out of bounds and added that someone on the show should have taken Limbaugh on. Among the other panelists were former players Michael Irvin and Tom Jackson, both of whom are black.

"I'm not pointing at anyone but someone should have said it,'' McNabb said of the panelists, who also include Berman and Steve Young. "I wouldn't have cared if it was the cameraman.''

A decade ago, there were few black quarterbacks in the NFL. This season, 10 of the 32 teams will have started black quarterbacks in at least one game.

Limbaugh has helped increase the ratings for "Sunday NFL Countdown.'' Nagle said ratings are up 10 percent overall. Sunday's show drew its biggest audience in the regular season since 1996.

Limbaugh is the radio host of the politically focused "Rush Limbaugh Show,'' which is syndicated in more than 650 markets worldwide.

Rush's comments were completely unacceptable, I even wonder why he was hired to help co-host Sunday NFL Countdown, comments were completely unacceptable.

If you really wonder why he was hired, read the part right above your opinion in the quote.

Just because you don't agree with him doesn't mean he isn't right. It certainly doesn't mean that he doesn't have the right to speak the truth. Nor does it mean that people who are open-minded enough to see that he is right should not have the right to hear him speak the truth.

Rush Limbaugh resigns

In the wake of his controversial statements regarding Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb, Rush Limbaugh has resigned from his position on ESPN's NFL pregame show. ESPN has accepted the resignation.

Limbaugh issued a statement late Wednesday night in which he wrote:

"My comments this past Sunday were directed at the media and were not racially motivated. I offered an opinion. This opinion has caused discomfort to the crew, which I regret.

"I love NFL Sunday Countdown and do not want to be a distraction to the great work done by all who work on it.

"Therefore, I have decided to resign. I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of the show and wish all the best to those who make it happen."

George Bodenheimer, President, ESPN and ABC Sports, issued the following response:

"We accept his resignation and regret the circumstances surrounding this. We believe that he took the appropriate action to resolve this matter expeditiously."

Same typical B.S..........White man say something about black man, white man racist and must be fired. Black man say something about white man, (I.E. Dusty Baker) black man hero.

His comments were wrong, dont know if should have been fired though. Saying that mcnaab is not as good as people perceve is fine. But to bring up race makes no since, " The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well". I have seen black quaterbacks preform very well, way further in the past. This whole idea is rediculous. As far is what fergy said you are right it should go both ways.

I dont see why people need to bring up races when talking about certain individuals. This problem occurs over and over in this country. Theres other countrys with decent amounts of minoritys, that dont have this problem.

He wasn't fired, he resigned. He didn't have to resign, he chose to. He didn't want the other members of the show to be caught up in the attack by the liberal spin machine. I respect his decision to resign, but I wish we still lived in a country where it was ok to speak the truth.

4x, He can still speak the truth, as long as it's the truth according to the liberals!

Now there's some TRUTH!

Rush could have said the exact same thing leaving out the color of McNabb's skin and there would have been absolutely nothing wrong with what was said. Unfortunately, people still need to make a difference between a black and a white, etc. And I agree with fergy, it needs to dealt with the same, on both sides.

I would just about bet anything that he was "asked" to resign.......ESPN/ABC doesn't want this to blackball them.

*The term "blackball" was a figure of speech, also meaning made to look bad. In no way, shape, form , or fashion was it mean in a derogatory or racist term toward any race or creed.....

<_< ;)

The only reason he resigned was to save face, he was gone. They just gave him the chance to walk out before they fired him.

Fact is that Rush knows about as much about football as he does about poitics...........any guesses?

Very true, Happy. Thats like putting John Madden in the booth at an ice skating tourney...
.. but it doesn't surprise me though. If he wasn't a good football player, he wouldn't be making good money, but Rush on the other hand... hahahaha, stick to politics bud. Or whatever you know about them.

Exactly, what Rush didnt know about Football, he meant to cover up by spreading more of his right-wing propaganda on the air. But then again, we couldnt expect more from Rush Limbaugh, a guy who thinks theres a conspiracy against white people, a guy who thinks the Mexican mafia is organizing rallies in his bathtub, and not only that, Limbaugh is also involved in abusing prescription drugs.

If one of the black sports host would have said something like that about a white quter back do you think he would had to resign. Don't think so.

Now Gollum, don't try to confuse these youngin's with the facts ;)

if this hypothetical black sport host had a political agenda like Rush did THEN YES, he should resign.

You all know the rules are entirely different. Charles Barkley can go on record saying that every writer who ever wrote anything bad about him not winning a championship when he was playing was an "ignorant redneck" and "just a bunch of frustrated old white guys" etc.

Dusty Baker has been quoted with some pretty ignorant racially degrading stuff about latin players, but that is quickly swept under the rug. Guys like Baker have the direct ability to affect some of these latin players ability to earn a living and yet nothing is made of his bigotry because he is black.

And yet you have these kids coming on here and spouting this ignorant liberal crap about someone who is stating an opinion on the media. Not about Donovan McNabb.

Your better off blaspheming God. Than saying someing neg. about a black Athlete.

"You mean to tell me they're holding our plane and soildiers hostage, and we're giving this Chinese guy a three year contract"...Charles Barkley

Firstly 4x, when I was on my high schools debate team, the thing was to attack the message not the poster, either you're all out of ideas to throw or something else I dont know.

I cant believe, you cannot see the truth. Rush Limbaugh, is a right-wing nut, a racist and a bigot who abuses perscription drugs and who's credibility is shot up to hell. He wants to spread his right wing agenda over the airwaves. He hates minorities, he thinks the poor should go screw themselves and he thinks theres a conspiracy against white people. He doesnt belong on ESPN, and we dont need his Hitler-loving ass on the airwaves. That my friends, is the truth.

"Today is Jimmy Hatter's birthday -- he's the gay guy we got workin' behind the scenes, y'all. We hire them all at TNT. We do not discriminate. We hired the pimp last year, Craig Sager, and now we got Jimmy Hatter. We got all the ethnic groups covered." ...Charles Barkley

It wouldn't be nearly as bad if I thought you had a clue as to what Rush believes or stands for. Every stereotype you just mentioned is simply what every liberal says he is about. I have read 3 books he wrote and while I don't agree with everything he says I certainly respect his intelligence and most of his opinions. If you took the time to actually read what he says about abortion (I can't begin to side with any party that thinks that killing defenseless unborn babies is ok), the poor (He doesn't hate them by any means. What he hates is the democratic party screwing over the poor in a systematic effort to keep them down and in the process keep themselves getting re-elected). I think you might at least have a clue as to what you are talking about. On the other hand, you likely have been skewered to the point where you wouldn't see the truth of what he has to say.

Um this is where rush went wrong IMO

"The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well"

This says to me that black quarterbacks arent doing well, which I dont see how someone can say this is the truth. There are plenty of black quarterbacks doing verry good jobs. Minnesota, Tennessee, and dallas seem to be doing pretty good to me. Not to mention the past.

I agree that blacks get away with saying things that whites dont, and its not right something needs to be done about that. It should go equally go both ways.

Rush is a hateful devisive person. Again you attack the messanger rather than the message by implying that Happy29 doesn't have a clue. How about a so called man, that when he had his TV show said that the Clinton's had a new dog and then shows a picture of a then 12 years old Chelsea. Rush has made a career of attacking and smearing people.
Your right wing rhetoric clearly shows you are biased. You also don't have a clue as to what skewered means.

The problem here Happy is that this is not the high school debate team. This is real life. In a high school debate there is nothing but useless words being thrown carelessly about. In the real world people get hurt. In the real world liberal/democrat beliefs cause unborn babies to die by the thousands every year. My hostility (for lack of a better word) towards the liberal agenda is that it destroys people's lives (in the case of welfare dependancy) or ends them (in the case of abortion). It all sounds good in theory but when practiced it doesn't end up that way.

No, that would be the supreme court that allows this. Does it matter to you that George W. Bush arranged an abortion for a girlfriend in 1970? Before it was legal?

That was 33 years ago. So your saying people can't change their ways, ideas over time.It that was so women would not have the right to vote. Blacks would still be using the back doors and sittn\ng on the back of the bus. The United would be a complete differant nation. :(

4xchampncountin, If you're gonna attack liberals, then I have an attack for conservatives too. Did you know that every year, the NRA continues to support and lobby for guns which kill innocent people yet the NRA has their slogan "Guns dont kill people, dangerous minorities do?" You think about it 4xchampncountin. B)

Do you really think a gun is capable of killing someone on it's own? I believe the NRA is a useful organization. I fear more a government who seeks to take away my freedom that are guaranteed by the constitution than I am a group who seeks to protect those rights. Think about that Happy.

I am done having this conversation. It serves no purpose as nobody who believes that killing innocent children is acceptable is going to be swayed by verbage. I once felt that liberalism made a lot of sense, but then I grew up and realized that it really doesn't. Perhaps experience and life's lessons will change your views as you grow up. Perhaps they won't. Either way I am done trying to explain why you offend many of us so greatly when you attack our president and our country in the ways you do.

I'm not attacking my country, I love my country and for you to insinuate that I attack it is complete Bullcrap. My brother is in the United States Army and my father and mother used to be police officers. Liberals and Moderates are just as patriotic as anyone and after seeing what conservatism has done to our country (John Ashcroft, Senator McCarthy and his "red hunt") then I thank the good lord that many people are speaking out against the idiots in the White House and on the deep right wing path. I say you need to watch your mouth 4xchampncountin, I'm just as patriotic as you are.

Secondly, I dont know why whenever conservatives are taking on moderates or liberals in a debate. The conservatives give up and say that the other half is unpatriotic when it's the conservatives who've been endlessly war-mongering and sending our troops to die for an unnecessary war, when it's the conservatives who bankrupt our once prosperous nation and take the money for themselves and the big businesses and screw over the little guys.

Just because I insult two morons named George Bush and Rush Limbuagh means I'm unpatriotic? Same conservative rhetoric crap I hear from the typical neocon.
