We saw this story the other day. My daughter, who is an avid animal lover, now refuses to watch the Olympics that she had been really looking forward to. My favorite part of this is the quote from the guy who owns the company Russia hired to exterminate these stray dogs. “These dogs are biological trash,” Sorokin said. “Let’s call things by their real name.”. Apparently, he hasn't looked in a mirror, or at the people who hired him to do this in an effort to "clean up the streets".

That's seems like a huge number for a city the size of Sochi and while one obviously can't trust what the government says (even if they were to speak) the activist have their agenda as well, so who knows :confused:

If this is/was true, I would think they would have a more accurate number...I know that have killed "wild" dogs but 5000-7000 is a really big number to believe

One of the best men I know is my friend Val from Russia. He said Russia is incredibly corrupt. He said he ran from Russia, as soon as he had enough money. He said everyone there will beat you out of whatever you have. You can have any woman for a bottle of beer.
While Val was waiting for his citizenship here in the U.S., he worked terrible jobs for little pay and long hours. He now works for the city of Los Angeles. He brought his daughter here. Val is an awesome guy (even though he's a Jeff Gordon fan.)
He basically said Russia is a cesspool.

I saw someone on TV last night who put it in prospective. He said that Russia is basically stuck in the middle ages.

Sochi's population is recorded at around 343,000. Over 2,000 residents were forced out of their homes in Sochi and had to move in to "temporary housing" (unfinished buildings that are tarped off).

I doubt that these poor creatures had much of a life living in the streets in that **** hole, thats the only thing that might be a positive about this story :(

Russia is no place you ever want to be.

Must be an incredible place to visit however.

We're definitely fortunate to live where we do.

Terrible yes but we should not be throwing stones. According to the Humane Society of the US;
The HSUS estimates that animal shelters care for 6-8 million dogs and cats every year in the United States, of whom approximately 3-4 million are euthanized. At this time, there is no central data reporting agency for animal shelters, so these numbers are estimates;

We quit the equine rescue, hated to do it but we had to. Our dogs and cats all were rescues

Yikes!

We would not have such a big problem if spaying and neutering was done on a more consistent basis. We put down our cat Turbo last Dec 16th;. he had been a loyal friend and our pet for 22 years.. we now have a 10 week old kitten and she's getting 'fixed" in 2 weeks. Our Siberian was a rescue and spayed, a damm shame IMHO due to her conformation and temperament but theres reality.
The horses, some were loved animals that the owners just got too elderly and or sick to care for them. I truly felt sorry for them. Others were Daddy's little rich girl horse that wasn't good enough to take them to the Olympics so it was all the horses fault and they neglected the animal. I hated seeing that.
