And remember, DEI is now run by Bobby Hutchens, an engineer. The new cars are run by engineers, bump-stops, and 7-post rigs. He might drive, but he'd never "race".
He comes in and rescues DEI. He provides a mentor of sorts to Truex. Maybe even he rolls his Nationwide team into the DEI fold and secures a spot for Steven to move up without massive amounts of money out of his pocket. And he is able to retire after a few years of settling in at DEI, maybe with a partnership of sorts.
Sounds like a win win to me...
And then three weeks from now, ESPN's headline says --- BREAKING NEWS: Rusty Wallace signs 2 year contract with DEII doubt it'll happen. Just a rumor...
Rusty Wallace on Wednesday denied a report that he is considering ending his three-year retirement to drive again -- possibly for former rival Dale Earnhardt's team. "I love Kenny to death; he's been trying to get me back in a car ever since I retired after 2005," Rusty Wallace said in a statement. "While any rumors like this are certainly flattering, they're untrue. I have a long-term commitment to ABC and ESPN and I really love what I'm doing right now." DEI president Max Siegel did not immediately return a call for comment.(ESPN)(10-1-208)
It sucks for Regan Smith though. That'd probably be the only way DEI will get 2 cars in the races next year.
It sucks for Regan Smith though.
I think he's a lot more talented than his performances at DEI show.
