Very interesting. While rumors relating to Hornish's jump to NASCAR have been circulating for a while, this seems to be the most credible. Rusty retiring? I thought he would drive for a couple more years. Then again, team performance has been wanting, maybe it is time to sit on the porch.

I don't see Rusty retiring as a bad thing at all. But do you really think Hornish is going to wait til 2005 to come to Cup?

Don't see why not Dee....

Tony Stewart for all his success in many other series ran Busch in 1998 and some before that even prior to moving into WC in 1999.

Hornish may be very very good at the OW series, but this is a new playing field. It would be in his best interest to gain some seat time before thinking he can take on this game on a level equal with the best who do it now.

If it works out in Busch or trucks or whatever that he is ready, I am sure Penske can get him a few races in a third car at the WC level prior to 2005. Likely not enough to rule him out of the ROTY running for 2005 though.

This is the third rumor of Sam Hornish Jr, going around about moving to Nextel Cup Series in 2005. He will sign either between Rick Hendrick-Jeff Gordon Motorsports or Peneske South Racing.

I think Hornish is making a bad dicision leaven Panther Racing. They were going to offer him 4 million a year plus let him drive in select Cup races with RCR. To bad his agent told Panther racing not to make another offer.

Panther Motorsports doesnt have a sponser for the 2004 IndyCar Season anyway. Another thing Sam Hornish wasnt going to run any select races with RCR. Paul Tracy is the one who is aiming for RCR

I'd hate to see Rusty leave the series, but if it's in His best interests, then so be it.

NOT! Hornish to drive for Penske Racing North!! Officail announcement of Penske Racing.com

And, the winner is redrock! Read all about it here

And a little snipit:
READING, PA – Penske Racing, Inc. announced today that 2003 Indianapolis 500-Mile race winner and two-time National Champion Gil de Ferran will retire at season’s end. Two-time IRL Series Champion Sam Hornish, Jr. has signed a multi-year deal to drive for the team beginning in 2004.

Well, I guess that puts an end to the 'Hornish to NASCAR' talk.

i know it says hornish, but i cant wait until bryan vickers moves up

Not exactly! I would not be surprised if Sam runs a few races next year and in 2005. Not to become a cup regular but to just drive some Penske 1-offs to help with R&D

I hear Sam Hornish Jr. wants to run the Daytona 500 and Brickyard 400, with the success that Ryan Newmans showing, then Hornish Jr. could possibly be one of the drivers to watch.
