Rusty to Retire in 2005? He didn't say it in so many words, but in the pre-race notes for Saturday night's race at Richmond, Rusty Wallace hinted he might retire from driving in the Winston Cup Series at the end of the 2005 season, or at least cut back his schedule. Wallace, 46, celebrated 600 consecutive Winston Cup starts at Richmond, and has 609 total starts. "700 straight?" Wallace asked rhetorically. "I honestly don't think I'm going to make 700 straight, but it'll be probably 675." If he stays on his current pace, Wallace would be 49 years old at the end of the 2005 season, would have 687 consecutive starts if the schedule remains at 36 races a season and would amass 697 total events.(NASCAR.com Buzz)(5-5-2003)

I dont know about Rusty in particular, but in the next 4-10 years about 20 of the current drivers will pass the 50 year old mark!If that arbitrary age is used as a cut-off point, then a wholesale 'changing of the guard ' is taking place. The Nascar scene will include a lot of new names by 2013 anyway.Kind of makes you wonder if the talent is out there to replace Marlin,Wallace,Labonte,Martin,Elliott etc. Those might prove to be some pretty big shoes to fill.

I dont recall any other era that has had such a turn-over as the next decade will bring.Should be fun to watch the new talent gradually come along though.

Maybe a seniors tour :p
I always thought that Nacar should start one. It would make total sense. Then Dave Marcis wouldn't have been out there all the time. DW could have graduated to it in 98 when he should have ended his cup career.

Or it would be cool to have a senior all star race! Just one race every year, next after the Winston! :)

I don't think he will he will stay around like Petty and Waltrip did. A little to long. And welcome to the forum. :D
