Standing 'O' for Rusty at drivers meeting, except.... Robin Pemberton, NASCAR's vice president of competition, invited Rusty Wallace to the microphone within the first five minutes of the weekly prerace drivers meeting at Homestead on Sunday. Wallace, who went on to finish 13th on Sunday evening, drew a standing ovation from the drivers in the room. Everyone stood, with the exception of Penske Racing South teammate Ryan Newman, who has been at constant odds with the 1989 Cup champion."It's been a great ride," Wallace told his fellow drivers. "I can remember when I came in, it was [Cale] Yarborough, [David] Pearson, [Richard] Petty and [Dale] Earnhardt. Now those guys are all gone and you guys are all here. I'm looking forward to life after racing. And if I've roughed anybody up along the way, I'm sorry. I didn't really mean it, unless it paid more."(Atlanta Journal-Constitution)(11-21-2005)

Rusty's still my driver and I just want to say "Thank You" for all the memories.
I'm gonna miss him.

Now the 2 is going to be tarnished with the new driver Terrell Owens... I mean Kurt Busch.

:beerbang: Ryan, to me isn't a team player, and thats too bad. That will bring the team down. With KB coming to the team and KB's recent activities i'll tell you right now, he won't be on Ryan's holiday list!!! I don't know yet who my cup driver will be. It won' be Hendrick, DEI or RCR. Mabey Jack R. Mabey Kurt. I'll have to give it some long hard thought. Can't wait for Steve Wallace to make it!!

I've seen newman act like a little baby before, but not disrespectful until now. Sounds like he's got the perfect teammate coming in.
Good luck to the Penske tiny tots day care center.

Thanks Rusty, My hat is off to you. you will be remembered as one of the greats. Millers are on me.

You know, the fact that Ryan Newman didn't stand up absolutely floors me. He has never been a driver I liked and my husband is a HUGE Rusty fan but that's not the point...It just amazes me that someone who is supposed to be a "professional" can possibly be that childish.

You're absolutly right, A true professional would have stood up no matter what has gone on in the past.

That's going to be quite a team, huh????? LOL
Boy, talk about the irisistable force and the immoveable object???
Those two are so mis-matched, Penske will prolly be beating his head on the closest wall in pretty short order. LOL Just deserts in my book.
I'll sure miss Rusty though. Ryan has a LOT to learn before he can even begin to be a "Class Act"!!!!! Well, so does KB.

Hell I've seen Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton give Dubya a standing ovation. Differences aside Rusty has some big time accomplishments that Ryan could have atleast acknowledged by showing a little respect.

just lost what little respect i had for ryan, hope the POS don't finish in the top 25 next year. just who the hell does he think he is!!!!!!

I truely believe that R-E-S-P-E-C-T should be a part of us all. Showing lack of respect is a character flaw (IMO).
I've never been a Newman fan, but he just knocked himself down a few more notches in my book.

UPDATE: Contrary to published reports, Ryan Newman, as well as his crew chief, Matt Borland, joined their fellow NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series competitors in a standing ovation in honor of their Penske Racing South teammate Rusty Wallace during the driver's meeting for last Sunday's Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. "I respect Rusty Wallace as a race car driver," Newman said. "And I put effort forward in recognizing that on Sunday."(Penske Racing PR)(11-24-2005)

His word "effort" seems a bit suspicius.(sp?)

Almost sounds as if it took a real "EFFORT" to stand up. Probably was the last to stand up after a few dirty looks from others along with a little proding from his crew chief.

First there were complaints and criticisms because of the rumor Ryan did not stand up. Seems now Ryan did stand during the ovation and that should end it.
Like him or hate him, he did do what he was being criticized for. It apparently was a false allegation and the recent media report indicating he did stand, should end any and all complaints as well as speculation as to his motivation.

?? Why should we let facts stand in the way of a good BASH, we never have before?

ROFLMAO!!!!

Whatever happened, Rusty has been a positive role model for the sport and has been around a long time. I'm sad to see him go, but only he knows what he needs.
Ryan Newman? Good driver, great qualifyer, not as good a finisher and if he doesn't like Rusty, bad judge of character.

Or maybe he has his reasons for disliking Rusty, man you know so what if he doesn't like Rusty. Not everyone on this Planet likes the guy.
