1-2 rookie finish in the points? I could happen. I found this on NASCAR .com:

Newman finished second at Kansas, got five bonus points for leading a lap. He's now only 154 points back with seven races to go.

After Bristol -- six races ago -- Newman was 427 points behind then-leader Sterling Marlin.

That's an average of 71 points made up a week. How many points did he make up at Kansas?

You guessed it. 71.

Oh, I LOVE a good finish and this looks like it may go down to the wire!
I think Newman is still ahead for ROTY.

Will this be the first time we have TWO rookies at the head table??

Wow, ft18, with one of the contenders out now, it just could happen! Wouldn't that really throw the monkey wrench into things..

They were saying on Totally NASCAR (or was it Inside Winston Cup I forget) that if Jimmie Johnson won the title even if Ryan Newman had more points in the ROTY chase Johnson would most likely win it. There were saying that a panel of people at the last race of the season pick the Rookie of the Year (and Jeff Gordon is also one of those people on the panal since he won the championship last year).

Im telling you those two guys are something else on a race track

Newman more or less has ROTY wrapped up. He needs one more top 5 and he has 15 for the season. I don't think Johnson can come close to that.

Not quite Ciggie, if Jimmy wins the title then you know he'll win rookie of the year too. He'll probably pick up a lot of those extra votes at the end too considering he's been in the title hunt all year. I wouldn't say Newman has anything wrapped up.
