SPEED's Bob Dilner reported on Sunday's SPEED report that Robert Yates Racing has asked NASCAR if they could transfer the #38 to Hendrick Motorsports in 2008 for Dale Eanrhardt Jr. to use, the #3 in honor of his father, the late Dale Earnhardt, who ran the #3 [a few races in 1981 and then from 1984 until the 2001 Daytona 500 and won 6 of his 7 championships using #3] and the #8 of course is Dale Jr.'s car #8 since he came into the sport. No word what number David Gilliland would switch to, but RYR still has the license on the #28, last used in 2002 with Ricky Rudd and has used the #90 in the past.

There you go Jr. fan. The best of both worlds. :partytime

i like it....good move.

RYR shows that some owners out there are willing to work with other teams and drivers.

Just goes to show what a class act man Robert Yates is ,but I've known that all along .

See, I told you Dilner is to be taken with salt ---

UPDATE2: Marty Smith said on ESPN2's NASCAR Now that it is unlikely the #38 will be transferred from Yates to Hendrick.(8-28-2007)

Marty Smith had credibility that Dilner just dreams about.

I suppose they can try to get the #83 from Team Red Bull now...

arnt you people more worried about him making the chase then what his number is going to be. this is why jr fans are so superficial. im more worried about my driver not getting run over by montoya so that he can make the chase, isnt winning a championship what its all about.

Some truth in your post. Harvick may be in danger of Jr overtaking him in points. Of the last 3 in points, Harvick is the most suspect, IMHO. :)
