Sabates critical of new points format

Felix Sabates, part owner of Chip Ganassi Racing says he's lobbying NASCAR to change the Chase for the Championship format after this year.

``I think the format penalizes the sponsors,'' he said.

``I would take the top 15 cars rather than the top 10 or make it 650 points [behind the leader, the cutoff for eligibility].''

Now its time to call Sabates a crybaby. I can remember that man blasting others during the aero wars as crybabies.

I like His idea, makes too much sense though,NASCAR would never go for it,

I still say that a road course should be among those final 10 races of each season.I also believe that there should be at least a 50 point advantage to the point standings leader after race #26,with a 10 point defecit for each position thereafter,JMHO,but most times the points leader would've had a big points leader after race #26 only to see it frittered away down to +5 point lead, that's BS,as regards racing anyway, but then the new point system is really for entertainment purposes anyway :p :p
I hope NASCAR doesn't lose too much fanbase over this new points system and way too many numerous new rules and sponsorship fiascos of late. ;)

Speaking of sponsors, Inside Nextel last night brought up a salient point. The emphasis now is on the drivers 8-13 or so. The top drivers, and by extension their sponsors, are not getting the face time these other drivers are. So maybe Lowe's, Dupont and Bud are paying big bucks for coverage but the attention is on Interstate Batteries, Goodwrench, Alltel, Dodge, Mtn Dew and UPS. This is a definite change from years past. Busch, 7th in points, gets almost no coverage. This may come back and bite NASCAR...

Guess he knows how his teammate, the defending series champion, feels.

Matt Kenseth. In case anyone has forgotten. He won it last year, ya know. Not Mikey, not Jeff, not Harvick, not Jimmie. Kenseth. Honest to God. Thought I might oughta remind everyone, Lord knows NBC and FOX haven't.

I think most fans recall that Matt Kenseth won the last Winston Cup Series Championship,it was the fashion that He dominated last year that gave Us this crappy point system this year. ;)

Actually I think a bunch of whiners and complainers brought this on.

You know the old saying...those who can't do, teach. Those who can't keep up, whine.

Ever who is in 15th does not deserve a shot at the title. They are going after the 1 mill. for 11th. That battle will get a bunch of air time too.

Maybe they should do like in little kids soccer games and not keep score. We don't want people to feel bad if they get beat.
