Looks like Chevrolet is stopping Elliott Sadler from driving the 55 for MWR. If this was already posted I'm sorry I didn't see it.

Fox says Brian Vickers might get a shot at it. I agree with Chevy on this especially with the new cars coming for 2013 it seems there's a new emphasis on manufactures again which I think will be cool to see again.

Kasey Kahne is the only driver I can remember driving a different make in NW, but I don't recall a NW driver having problems driving for a different make in Cup. Kez drove for Penske in '09 while he was driving a Chevy in NW and they didn't have a problem with it.

I don't see the big deal here, it would be more significant if he was running a full Cup season, but he isn't. Five races in a different make car, so what?

This from Jayskis

  • Sadler to drive 5 races for MWR: UPDATE: Michael Waltrip Racing announced that Elliott Sadler will drive the team's #55 Toyota in five Sprint Cup races in 2012 beginning at Bristol Motor Speedway on March 18. Sadler will also drive the #55 in the August Bristol event, both Martinsville races and the July 15 race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Waltrip explained how Sadler came to drive the No. 55. "Elliott has the experience and attitude we were looking for," said the two-time Daytona 500 champion. "We'll pair him with Crew Chief Rodney Childers who builds really fast cars. We believe Elliott will do a great job." Waltrip drove the #55 in the Budweiser Shootout and will run in four more races in 2012. Mark Martin will drive the #55 in 24 races plus the All Star Race in Charlotte. MWR will name a driver for two road course events at a later date.(MWR)(3-3-2012)
UPDATE: no driver has yet been named for the race at New Hampshire in September, that driver will be named later.(3-4-2012)

Updated yesterday and today?Still looks like by this story he's still in???

His win at PIR in NW raised his profile and perhaps now Chevy probably wants him in Chevy's.

UPDATE 2: Elliott Sadler's plans to substitute for Mark Martin behind the wheel of the #55 Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series may have been a bit premature. Sadler, who won the Nationwide Series race Saturday for Richard Childress Racing, was hoping to pilot the Aaron's Toyota for five races that Martin has elected to skip, starting with the race at Bristol Motor Speedway on March 18. But multiple sources told FOXSports.com the deal blew up Saturday night, shortly after it was announced via a press release. While talks had been in the works for a couple of months, the manufacturer conflict for Sadler, who drives Chevys full time for RCR in the Nationwide Series, appears to have squashed the arrangement. With most rosters set for 2012, don't be surprised to see former Toyota driver Brian Vickers run the five races in place of Martin.(Fox Sports)(3-4-2012)

Just found this on Jayski

Great...Vickers.

Couldn't DW have driven those races or maybe Steven Wallace?

I hate this for Elliott and his family. It was a great opportunity .Actually , let me be the first to boycott somethin this year ...you'all always like to boycott sponsors...I refuse to buy a new Chevy this year.

vickers has had plenty of time to reevaluate how he needs to drive if he wants another cup ride. i expect he will do a decent job and earn back some respect. that's assuming he gets the ride.

Agreed slowneasy , what is with this need we have to lable everybody? Vickers will be fine.

Kenseth fans are still pissed and will tend to disagree with you on thid.

Why are you assumeing Chevrolet squashed the deal?

I suspect he isn't going to get too many more chances so he better make good on this one.

This may be a more accurate scenario as to how it all played out...

MWR offers Sadler a chance to run 5 races in their Toyota
Richard Childress remembers that Pee Wee drives a Toyota
RC told Eliott that if he wanted to go and drive the same brand that Pee Wee drives, then he would find someone to "hold his watch"
Chewbacca hung his head and said, "Soghghghghgghghgrry, Boghghghghghghgs."

Isn't KuBu driving KyBu's Toyota in Nationwide some this year? While Driving Finch's Chevy in Cup.

Kurt is not a high profile Chevy driver driving for a high profile chevy team. Sadler is the favorite for the NWS Championship this year and he is driving for a high profile Chevy Team.

Its just so hypocritical. Kenseth wrecked Vickers many times last year. Never once was it provoked. Vickers retaliates one time and he is labled a wrecking ball by these apeople.

Now I'm not sticking up for KuBu but he is a past champ.Sadler hasn't really done much.

what are the chances KuBu wins a championship in any series this year? If KuBu was in a high profile chevy ride in NWS or Cup with a shot at the championship he wouldnt be driving for Kyle this year. does Chevy really want their 2012 NWS Champ running in a Toyota?

Finch's ride that is basiclly a Hendrick car with a little more money behind it than usual is not a high profile ride??and again I'm not sticking up for KuBu.

UPDATE 3: On Saturday, Michael Waltrip Racing announced that Elliott Sadler would drive the #55 MWR NASCAR Sprint Cup car for five races this season. But Monday afternoon, Sadler told SPEED.com that the deal was off. Richard Childress, Sadler's car owner in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and a longtime Chevy loyalist, told Sadler after his victory in the Bashas's Supermarkets 200 at Phoenix International Raceway that he didn't want Sadler in Waltrip's Toyota. "I was going to drive the 55 car for five races for MWR, but actually, after the race on Saturday, after Victory Lane, Richard and I went to his bus," Sadler told SPEED.com. "And I think Richard, along with some of the executives that he has, have just decided that it's probably not in our best interest to do that right now."(SPEED)(3-5-2012)
UPDATE 4: Sadler said nothing in the meeting was discussed about RCR being a Chevy team and MWR being a Toyota team. "It was more about focus on what we are doing (in Nationwide)," said Sadler, who has a 10-point lead in the series after two races.(ESPN)(3-6-2012)

On a related note, Vickers has been spotted on Coney Island riding the bumper cars in a attempt to get some practice
