Installation of the SAFER Barrier system at Texas Motor Speedway is scheduled to begin next month and be completed before the Indy Racing League's Bombardier 500 night race June 12, eight months after Kenny Brack's horrifying accident on the 1.5-mile quadoval.
Approximately 6,300 linear feet of the Steel and Foam Energy Reduction (SAFER) system -- also known as "soft-wall" technology -- will be installed in five sections of TMS beginning the week of May 10. Work on the project, which carries a $1.7 million price tag, will take two to three weeks and be done at night by engineers of parent company Speedway Motorsports Inc.
