Jayski's is reporting that the indy style safer wall will be installed in time for the Oct race. Inside walls? Oh well, it's a start.

"Talladega Superspeedway is expected to announce this week that it is lining about 3,000 feet of its inside retaining walls with the SAFER impact-absorbing barrier system. The project should be complete in time for the Oct. 6 EA Sports 500.":D

Anything that will slow down the impact and prevent serious injury or worse is a good thing. i hope more tracks look into some type of safer wall system :)

I applaud them for taking this step, but it still won't be racing that takes place there.

AMEN!!!!!!

How are soft walls on the inside wall going to help an race car drivers if they always hit the outside wall and each other at Talladega. I really haven't seen anyone hit the inside wall.

RacingOne is reporting that installation begins Sept. 16.

As to how the safer walls on the inside of the track will help, the answer is simple. SAFER walls will help reduce impacts no matter where they happen.

Rememeber that inside crash at Pocono? Can you imagine what that would have been like had it been a concrete wall instead of a guardrail?
