OK, I got to thinking on the drive home the other day. Everyone's talking about too many cup drivers in the nationwide series, too many big money teams making it hard for the smaller teams to compete (let alone even make the races in some cases).

So, I thought, why not a salary cap of sorts. Each team can only spend x amout of money per car per season. This will include personnel, testing, parts, etc. There would obviously have to be some sort of allotment in the event of destrying a car and such, but something like this could not only help reduce costs for the lesser teams, but could probably help bring the series back to what it was ment for for.

Now I have absoulutely no idea how this could work, or even if it could.....or maybe I'm just crazy.
 
It doesn't matter what we as fans think, NASCAR wants those cars in the lower tiered series. They don't believe, and never have, that the Nationwide series is a stand alone series. Even before they switched to V8's, they would pay four or five big name cuppers to drive a car in the series to help get the fans in the seats. I believe that even the cars were supplied, but not sure about that.

You are right about that, and I'm sure it was a big selling point that brought in Nationwide. And I wouldn't have a problem of them bringing in 4 or 5 big named guys now and then, but it's gotten out of hand. It used to be that it was a lot closer to a standalone series than it is now, when only a handful of events were companion events. Just now, it's the other way around, and the big teams are dominating the whole season.
 
there are several things wrong in Nationwide right now I think....... I agree with the too many cuppers in there. I think have JR, Busch, etc does help sell tickets...... does help the young guys get better..... BUT...... don't bring Hendricks, Gibbs, Rousch money..... they can't compete. On the flip side, I HATE seein guys like Michael Waltrip, Robby Gordon, etc in there..... they are field fillers...... The other problem is the Cup teams are too fast to move these guys up. No time to get expierence, build rivalries, make a name...... they run a handful of races, and jump straight to Cup to either sink or swim. Most sink, then spend the rest of their career with a mediocre Cup team, and a decent Nationwide team, and never really mature, or excel. Then you end up with 2 fields filled with mediocre drivers.......but thats just my opinion......
 
Teams will always figure out ways around things. When NASCAR started limiting test sessions per teams, the teams just added more cars and they got more tests. Now that NASCAR is limiting the number of cars per team, the teams are coming up with unofficial partnerships to extend their testing and R&D. NASCAR can come up with as many rules as they want, teams will always figure out ways around them.

You got it right, all in one post.

Perfect example of a damn good driver who never got a legitamate shot, Stuart Kirby. The dude can flat out drive a racecar, but never got a decent ride. Bobby Hamilton, Jr., Casey Atwood and Stephen Leicht also fall into this category.

Leicht's a proven winner, and has proven he can compete. Where is he? He's a BACKUP DRIVER ......... for Clint Bowyer.:mad:

As I said in another web forum, the Cup Lite Series is beginning to create a problem with finding talent and bringing them in. Joey Logano is a perfect example of what drivers should be at when entering Cup. Instead, someone wins an ARCA race, gets a Cup ride with a mediocore and fades away.

They should never do this.

First, it would never work.

Second, it turns NASCAR into the NFL.
