I was sitting in front of the PC contemplating this years champion, I had a split screen going with ebay up looking for Minichamps 1/18 Penske cars & suddenly it hit me. Sam Hornish Jr doesn't drive for Penske anymore. I'm sure most of you probably noticed at the start of the season but i'm slow, sorry. I saw that he has driven in one race this year in the #38 car. I had always thought that he should've done what Dario did and gone back to the IRL but maybe he didn't want to, maybe he had made up his mind that if he didn't make it in NASCAR he was going to quit altogether. So I guess what i'm trying to say here is I don't know what he's up to nowadays, but in the case that he indeed has quit driving, gotta give a shot out to him for his performance in the IRL, he was a very dominant driver in that series. Take care of yourself Sam, you were thought of buddy...

He still drives for Penske, but only part time in the NWS. He said a few weeks ago that they are working on sponsorship for a fulltime NWS ride next season.

I know he performed like **** in his time in Nascar but I still liked him a lot in Indy, that 2006 Indy 500 win was just so awesome. I wish he would also go back to make things really interesting and give Dario and Power someone else to compete with.

My two favorite Hornish moments...

Those where definatly Two of the best finish's in Indycar ever.....I was pulling for Marco Andretti in 06

Sam was in a firesuit ready to replace Brad after BK hurt himself in that testing crash. Brad ran the entire race but Sammy was ready to go.

Sam actually replaced Brad in the NWS car that weekend at Iowa. Sam actually probably could have had a winning car if he didn't blow that tire. He led up front for much of the start of the race. I would really like to see him in the 22 full time next season in NWS. Discount Tires needs to make it happen.

I would think that he would have his chance to go back to Indy car, but I bet him being a newly father a few years back probably put a stop to it. Indy car is still a dangerous sport. So is Nascar, but Nascar is still tons safer than Indy car. My guess is he is just waiting for a Nascar ride to open up for him.

You are correct, Sir!

That's something that puzzels me. Earlier this year, Roger said they were planning to put Parker in the #22 next year for most, if not all, the races. They are trying to sell Hornish in a second car. Parker has been with Penske for 2 or 3 years, so I guess they feel it's his turn to get a ride, but it seems a former indy champ like Hornish would be an easier sell in the #22.

Poor Sam. He rode around for a couple of years while Penske had crap equiptment. He loses his ride, and Penske starts building real Cup cars. He said in an interview that, looking back, he should have been more vocal about the low quality of his cars.

Now Busch is taking all of the credit for turning the team around. LOL

Yeah, I though it was funny when he said "It was fun to come down and check on that teams progress".

It's almost like Brad and Kurt have swapped roles at Penske, and Brad is actually getting more respect from veterans off the track than Kurt seems to get.

Paul and Brad could shake the chase, but one thing is clear. These 2 will be a real force for years to come. It's Brad's 2nd full season on Cup, and Paul's first. They have something special developing, and it shows no sign of slowing down.

Having talent behind the wheel and on the pit box is important. There is one BIG caveat that must be addressed. It's all about the equipment being up to snuff! At long last, Penske has provided competitive rides.

Remember when Penske hired Kez, and then promptly added 45 engineers and tech people, and Brad talkeed about how many more they need to catch Hendrick? Roger was very high on Brad, and even waited a year after making his initial offer to get him, then agreed to starting a NW team to get him signed. I think Brad has done more to improve Penske than people realize. Roger seems serious about winning a cup title than he's been since Rusty Wallace.

And in the process, he is making the Dodge Boys very happy!

Yep. The beer boys are smiling too. I see a juicy long term contract in the near future. Brad has hinted that his contract runs through 2012, and we know what Hendrick said when he signed with Penske. They will want to wrap him up tight very soon.

Brad is really coming along. If he makes the Chase he could be a serious threat.

One thing is for sure, he's mentally tough. You'll never see him bail the way Denny did at Phoenix last year, and panick like he did at Homestead.
