I'm not exactly sure why this is such a big story, much like the first openly gay player was, but it is. In both cases, it probably should have happened sooner and should have been just sort of a given that they could handle the job.
In Becky Hammon's case, I hope she does well. I've seen her play and she was a very good player. Of course, physically she could have never competed in the NBA at the same level, but I think most NBA players are smart enough to realize that basketball is basketball. There have been some great coaches in the NBA who couldn't play basketball nearly as well as Becky Hammon. And on top of that, I don't think it hurts her that she is pretty damn hot in my opinion.
