: Open-wheel star Sarah Fisher has been named to drive for Bill McAnally Racing in the Subway 150 NASCAR Grand National Division, West Series race at Phoenix International Raceway on Oct. 3. Fisher - who has raced four seasons in the IRL IndyCar Series - will be making her NASCAR debut, driving the #20 NASCAR Select by NAPA Filters Chevrolet. "We are excited to have Sarah be a part of the team at Phoenix," said BMR President Bill McAnally. "This is a great opportunity for BMR to work with a talented young driver from the open-wheel ranks. She should provide an interesting perspective and some valuable input into our program." Fisher, who progressed through the sprint car and midget car ranks to the Indy Racing League, was voted the IRL's Most Popular Driver the past three seasons. The 23-year-old resident of Indianapolis, Ind., scored a career-best runner-up finish in the IRL IndyCar Series at Homestead-Miami in 2001 and won the pole at Kentucky in 2002. In 2000, she became only the third woman in history to qualify for the Indianapolis 500. "I'm really excited to be making my NASCAR debut," Fisher said. "It's a great opportunity. I've been working hard to prepare for this." Fisher will join BMR at Phoenix as a teammate to Austin Cameron, who is currently second in the championship standings. The event is the 10th in a 13-race schedule for the series this year. McAnally is a veteran car owner in the NASCAR Grand National Division, West Series with three consecutive series championships (1999, 2000 and 2001) to his credit. The West Series and the Busch North Series comprise the Grand National Division. Graduates of the West Series include 1998 series champion Kevin Harvick and Brendan Gaughan, who won back-to-back titles in 2000 and 2001. The NASCAR Doubleheader Weekend at PIR features the JC's Glass 100 NASCAR Elite Division, Southwest Series race and the Subyway 150 NASCAR Grand National Division, West Series race. Tickets for the NASCAR DoubleHeader Weekend at PIR on October 2-3, can be purchased by phone 602-252-2227 or 1-866-408-7223. They can also be purchased by logging on the website www.phoenixraceway.com.(PIR PR)(9-23-2004

Wouldn't it be great to see her at the Grand Nationals at Irwindale???????

I wish her the best as she is a dedicated driver trying to make it in a male dominated sport.

If .... IF... she does well, I could see her coming into a NASCAR series full time.

There is another female driver :) that was going to race in the Busch North series in 2005 but it appears the potential sponsor is backing out. :(

Indy car standout Sarah Fisher's name is being tossed around (as a candid for either the #2 or #21 BGN car) as plans for her to enter a Grand National Division, West Series race in Phoenix have materialized as a result of Richard Childress' involvement. She recently tested at Caraway Speedway in a car owned by Kevin Harvick and was impressive.

I say put her is the 21. She not only can drive she is a lot better looking than Hornaday or Boyer.

The speculation is that Clint Boyer will move to the #2 full-time. That would leave RCR searching for someone to driver the #21 whenever Harvick doesn't.

She isn't much of a racer since she had that big wreck at indy i believe it was ... but she's not as good as she was

She was no use in the IRL so now she is trekking over to the NASCAR division. hopefully this stint in her career will end her career because she really wasnt a good driver in the IRL at all. All's i got to say is she can make contact now which she couldnt in the IRL, which always had her in the back of the pack.

If she gets the chance I'll be surprised if she finishes a race. I'll be speechless if she ever finishes in the top twenty. That's if she even qualifies for a race.

Tough crowd. I can name quite a few drivers who got "thrown" into cup or busch cars who weren't ready. It's the going trend lately. I wouldn't be surprised if she got a decent ride right out of the gate if for nothing more than the marketing aspect.

It seems like I missed all the action. I was away for the weekend , no TV, no computer. :(

Lets at least give Sarah a chance. She is a dedicated driver with talent and just may be very good in one of the Nascar series.

Geez, they gave Sauter a chance.

TWO WORDS:

Shawna Robinson!!!
Isn't she the one DEJr. referred to as a "moving chicane"?

If you don't want to at least give her a chance. Then why not take about 15 cars off the track that stand really no chance of winning. Kyle Petty, Ken Shrader, Jeff Green and Derrick Cope just to name a few. I have nothing against any of those guys. But they are just out there running in circles each week to draw a paycheck.

No, he was refering to Robby Gordon at Bristol one time. He really didn't say much about Shawna at Texas that year because Shawna's husband works for DEI.

I agree. Sarah deserves at least as much chance as those drivers. Let her run in Busch and see how she does before bashing her.

I'm looking forward to seeing Sarah run fendered cars. I really like her.
