As some you may know, I've been un-employed for a couple weeks now...

Last week I got a message on my machine from a guy saying he 'ran across' my name and was inerterested in interviewing me. Considering I send out about 30 resumes a week, I wasn't suprised when I called the number that the company wasn't familiar...IN FACT I couldn't even understand the NAME of the company! "pra--merka"

Anywho, so I finally go the 'interview.' Me and about 20 other poor souls, listen for over an hour on how to help people set up their financial future...blah...blah...blah.

As a business Minor most of it sounded familiar...

NOW....all I have to do is PAY $200.00 and they will hire me as an expansions manager! Then they show pictures of all the 'millionaires' in the company.....Luckily I ran. (when's the last time you had to PAY TO BE HIRED?!!!)

The company was PRIMERICA....just another pyramid scam...

When I googled 'primerica' this is the 4th link:

http://www.ripoffreport.com

If it sounds to good to be true......(you know the rest)

That's the problem with doing resumes blindly............something we all wind up having to do at one time or another. I ran into it a little last year when I was unemployed for a while. Thanks for your post........it should be remembered by all. There are sharks out there in the sea.

Good post..............and good luck, Splung! I know where you are at.......it ain't fun but it will get better. :)

Just finished reading some of the reports on www.ripoffreport.com about Primerica...since they actaully are a large company, they just use Monster.com and other job sites to get names.

Oh well...hope I save someone else the hour and half I wasted.

I actually worked for Primerica several years ago.

I never heard of anyone having to pay to get in. That sounds pretty fishy.

Anyhow, I did make a pretty decent amount of money doing it. But I realized that the only way to really make the big money for them was to get "downlines" who produced. I worked with people who were making 130,000 a year so I know it is possible to do so. But, the recruiting process is the only way to get the real money. It was also the part I didn't much care for. They usually don't use the name Primerica when they first contact you.

As I indicated, I did make some good money doing refinances and other things. It really was helping people and I was paid well for it. But, that in and of itself won't pay you the big money.

splunge i had that happen about 2 years ago. I knew the guy personally. he isnt doing it now cause the money wasnt there. But i had the same thoufghts you did. why would i pay for someone to hire me.

From the reasearch I've done (last night)...it's one of those Half Shady, Half legit businesses...

They DO offer financial inventory and consolidation plans, but their reputation is so-so on the quality of the plans offered as compared other financial advisors....

....this due largely because they're focused on recruiting non-financial based workers to grow the company and get more recruits. This is the pyramid bit...

4x is right, there ARE people making money...you CAN make a 'living' working there...But they recruit on the premise that you'll be making 100,000 in a year....so naturally people are willing to plop down 200. Unfortunately, most new recruits (i read 95%) don't ever make ANY money.

That's a lot of $200 checks...
