ok...i went to the Busch race...and ive been to a ton of races in the past.....i took my headset to listen to the race on the radio like i always do...but this time...i noticed that were was a HUGE delay on the radio.

example....there was a wreck on the back stretch and the wreck didnt happen on the radio until the cars were in turn 1.

i know that on scanners you can pick up the radio via their freq. also.....does anyone know if that is delayed as well?

Not sure of the delay. I never had any such delay anytime I've been to any race (Daytona, Homestead, Richmond, Dover).

The MRN broadcasts shouldn't be delayed. And if you listen to them there - Barney Hall is a riot! :D

You mighta got a slow set of batteries :D

If he was in Charlotte, that race was on PRN. I don't know if they have a delay or not.

yea this is the first time ive ever heard the delay...ive been to Charlotte many many many times and have never heard it to be that bad...but it was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off.

I suspect that the networks have all made the decision to delay the broadcasts because of the newer FCC rules about obsenitives over the air. With so many of the on air interviews of drivers and crew, there has been many bad words that have made it out over the air.

The CLT May race the radio broadcast was delayed but the scanner radio broadcast wasn't. I'd guess to watch the language. Considering what you may hear over the scanner there really isn't much use to delay the radio guys but the FCC likes to have control over the over the air broadcasts.

thats exactly the answer i was looking for...that helps me justify spending the money to get a scanner....or to borrow the bosses :)

I talked to a NASCAR writer this evening about this and he said that he hadn't heard anything about it, but that PRN has been delaying their signal now for a couple of years, but that was not at the track. That was supposed to be raw feed and they have in the past made an announcement prior to the race about what one might hear. He also told me that they weren't delaying the feed into the media center. This could be something that is relatively new with PRN. It's understandable that the radio headsets could be delayed, but what is on the scanner is raw feed and that shouldn't have been delayed. If anyone is at Martinsville this weekend, please report as that race will be from MRN.

Bud, scanners are getting more and more affordable and if you attend many races during the year, they will pay for themselves quickly. We get most of our use from ours at our local tracks and use them each and every week during our local season. If you get out to Concord Raceway Park, you will be able to really get good use out of them.

Yeah, the raw feed can be funny. Those guys forget their mikes are on (maybe) when they go to a commercial break. Some of the things that come out of their mouths is worth me listening to the scanner radio broadcast rather than all those commercials on the radio.
