This happened this past weekend at the Oval Nationals. The cage had to be cut the extract the driver, but thankfully he's OK. I could only watch this once. Holy ^%$#!

Yep. According to the driver (he posted on FB when the group that shot this video uploaded it knowing he was alright) it was a pretty new one, too.

No, it wasn't a lightweight axle and it was quite new one too. No more precautions could have been done by the team to prevent it from snapping. Just one of those bad luck deals where things break for no apparent reason.
