Scary Stuff

I started feeling strange after lunch last Monday and it got to the point where I became nauseated and disoriented in the shop I've worked in for 13 years. After wandering around looking for something familiar for a while I decided to go home (a 12 minute bike ride), and got lost on the same route I've taken every day all these years until I finally passed out and fell over. Luckily a PG&E crew was working nearby and saw what happened and called 911 and just as fortunately our town's hospital was only a few blocks away but when the ER crew arrived I was in convulsions and had to be rescustitated. I woke up in the ER a couple hours later but was still in and out of a kind of hallucinatory state for the next 24 hours or so. After a series of tests and exams it was determined that I had suffered a stroke so I stayed in a regular room (next to a Heroin junkie going through withdrawls) for a few days until I could get up and around on my own and my doctor determined that I would be okay at home. Luckily my motor functions seem to be pretty much intact but I'm still having trouble with recent memory.
Lesson: GET CHECKED OUT, folks. I hadn't had any history of such a problem, don't smoke, watch what I eat and considered myself pretty fit for a guy my age (62 in a couple weeks).

Glad you're OK. My wife's uncle had the same thing happen a couple months ago, and up wrecking his bicycle (he's an avid rider) and as a result some additional, pretty serious injuries.

My big sister's watching me like a hawk, K5. I've talked to the kids and gotten them assured that it looks like I'll recover. I'm going to be a grandpa for the first time in a couple weeks and I told my boy I ain't gonna miss that. ;)

Good you have someone who will make you follow orders. That is so special. Congrats Grandpa, Poppy, or Papaw. LOL :)

thank God someone was around to that saw what had happened.you are very lucky. take care and feel better soon.

I am glad to hear you are ok now. That sounds pretty scary. My dad had a stroke when he was 65. He was at my brother's promotion ceremony at the liberty bell in Philadelphia. My mom said he seemed kind of strange that morning, but insisted on going to the ceremony as it was a really big deal for my brother. Right after the ceremony they took him to the hospital and he had a fairly serious stroke. He never did regain complete control of his left side. I'm glad you are doing much better.

Thanks for letting us know about this.

About a year and a half ago I was sitting here on the computer doing what I'm doing now. Realized I couldn't move my left arm. Having had 2 heart attacks my nitro is never far from me, took one, then another. I tried to get up and my left leg didn't work. No pain at all. Now it's time to call for help, luckily my son was home and he called 911. 4 days in the hospital, test after test. Determined I had had a TIA, a mini stroke. After a MRI they saw a narrowing of a vessel in my brain, stuck a pipe up in there.

Im ok now but not back to 100% strength on my left side. My advice is to follow your doc's orders to the letter, don't feel "right" get yer azz to the ER pronto!
