Schrader Still Mad About Martinsville
Ken Schrader is still fuming about getting knocked out of the Martinsville race two weeks ago by young David Ragan, who next year will replace Mark Martin behind the wheel of the Roush Racing No. 6 Ford Fusion. “Yes, he apologized,” Schrader said of Ragan. “I don’t believe him, but he apologized. What David has to learn, David has to learn how to race because he has only run — and I’m not counting Legends — seven Busch races, 20-something ARCA races and some Truck. He’s just got to learn how to race, and this isn’t where you learn how to race.”

Ragan, who was not permitted to race at Atlanta last week, was cleared to compete in the Nextel Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway this weekend, where he’ll attempt to qualify Boris Said’s No. 60 Ford, with sponsorship from Pennzoil. Ragan will drive one of Said’s cars, because NASCAR will only allow Roush to run its No. 06 Ford in one more race this season, and that will be in Phoenix, where Todd Kluever will drive. Ragan will also race in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Phoenix.(Speed Channel)

GET RID OF RAGAN

I'd 300% much more prefer Boris to be in the car than Ragan

yeah, this david regan is pissing me off, i wouldn't be surprise to see a martinsvilles repeat of regan.although this time around it would be much more deadlier to be around him at such speeds

No, what they need to do is to put Ragan into the wall early and often. That's the way these things used to be settled. It would need to be different drivers so it doesn't look like a grudge. Something like what they did to Lester last year.

I remember Ragan being in Roush's "Driver X" program last year where Erik Darnell got the ride, but Roush was impressed with Ragan and O'Quinn. One of the things that held Ragan back in the competition was his poor attitude toward doing the sponsor and TV inteview mocks each contestant had to do. Geoff Smith commented how he was a great talent as a driver, but had no interest in the "other" work. He implied he had a bad attitude about it.

I saw Ragan at an autograph session the week of the March Bristol race. Ironically, Ken Schrader was also at it. I went near Ragan's table a time or two and contemplated getting his autograph. But he had the total look of disinterest on being there, similar to what I saw on Casey Atwood about 5 or 6 years ago. So I passed on getting his autograph. I think the boy needs to be humbled a bit before he gets way ahead of himself and becomes a very hated driver among his fellow drivers.

I would be mad if I were Schrader too. What I think they should do with Ragan is have him get a full season in Trucks and Busch at least before moving up to Cup. Honestly, what makes Jack Roush think that someone who has run in about 7 Busch races, like 10 Truck races, and a handfull of Arca races will do anything except putt around a couple laps down or wreck in the Cup series?

My my, how you guys are so critical of a young driver. I guess you think that when anyone gets into a Cup car, they should be of championship callibre, such as those that we've seen in the near past. I don't know if you all are old enough to remember when guys had to pay their dues to get into a good car, and had to be back markers, getting in the way of the contenders and wrecking others. I just think that you are pretty harsh on David, a second generation Cup driver. One of these days, the likes of David Ragan and David Guillilad might possibly have more wins than that of Kenny Schrader and some young stud will come along and take him out of a race. I can see all of you cussing at this new kid who could one day break all of Jeff Gordon's records.

Have some patience and give these new guys a break now and then. Whether you like it or not, your favorite driver will be taken out of a race by someone new/old or what ever and you'll be mad, but it comes with the sport.

Good words!!!:)

Buckster, I'd rather give these kids a chance to prove themselves (in many cases), buy some seem to be in over their heads.

I hope you dressed WARM tonight (I mean Thermals for both you and Red)! Have FUN!

It's COLD here...

I agree, give him a chance. However, he did intentionally wreck Schrader, and that's something that cannot be tolerated on a guy's first race.

I'm cold enough here that I'm seriously contemplating sleeping with the window closed tonight...

BRrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

The problem is that there is no AVAILABLE talent in the Cup series today. Everyone that is capabable and deserves a quality ride, has one.
They're looking where ever they can to find new talent. Sometimes it's new, but it's not talent.

I'm not going to sit here and say that one day David Ragan will be one of the greats because I've only had a limited amount of time to watch him. I will say though that I know that Jack Roush is a good judge of talent and I'd tend to take his word over how good a driver David is than any couch potato sitting at home, watching the races on TV. All I'm saying is I think that you guys are rushing to judgement on David and you oughta give the kid a chance. But if you still want to rag on him, be my guest. It's a free country and there are those out there who still don't think much of Junior's talent...or Kurt, or...

I just think what most are saying is he deserves a chance, but he should be getting his experience in the lower series BEFORE coming to Cup. As far as JR's judgement of drivers, he's good but a long way from batting 1000. Kevin LePage & Chad Little ring a bell as an example?

The fact that he drives for Rousch doesn't help his polularity - except of course with the Rousch fans.

Good for you, Buck. I feel the exactly the same. How many drivers are there who have never pulled stupid moves? Even with many years of experience.

I agree to extent Buck, but IMO a lot of the guys coming up the ranks are being rushed along way too quickly. I really think Ragan needs a full season in Busch in a top notch ride before he gets a Cup ride. Of course i'm not Jack, he must have his reasons, but i think the kid needs more "seasoning". ;)

B.S., Roush makes mistakes just like everyone else. Ragan obviously doesn't belong in Cup at this stage in his career. Let him get his experience in ARCA, Trucks, and Busch.

Your right muggle not Jack Roush makes mistakes just like everyone else . Two that come to mind are Chad Little and Wally Dallenbach jr .

Of course you are all right about Jack making mistakes. But let me ask you how many of you would have thought that Kurt Busch would be a title holder in Jack's stable before Mark Martin? Say what you will of Jack, but he has an eye for talent. As for Chad Little, he showed much promise in the Busch series and I'm not aware that Wally drove for Jack. But at my age, I have a very bad memory. Besides, I've heard that Wally's wife is a much better racer than he is.

The main problem today is that the team owners not only have to find someone with raw talent, but much have the okay of the sponsors as well, and they are all wanting young, attractive men who can help them sell their products. The sonsors want immediate progress, but the owners know that it's a rarity that a kid can come in and be at the top right away. And in order to find that miracle kid, they have to see how they do. And when one can see as in Chad Little or Johnny Benson, great racing in the Busch series doesn't mean an automatic win in the Cup series. Just look at the Truck series and you will find umpteen drivers who thought they could be tops in the Cup series, only to find that in order for them to continue their carreers, they had to drive those big old boxy trucks.
